This Version contains now Twonkymedia server 5.00.55, which was released 24th, February 2009 as an unofficial release. Runs fine here with Popcorn Hour A-110 and NOXON Audio device. If You have installed Version 2.00.14.1 Your settings will remain after deinstallation and installation of the new version. The database will be build from scratch. If You run versions <= 2.00.14 You have to start from scratch with the settings. Available as usual via the thecus wiki. br Peter

Finally evaluating Twonky Media Server 5.x (after being a long-time user of 4.x).
This module installed just fine, but I'm facing the following strange issue: The web configuration page will hang when clicking "Save Changes" - this happens with every setting I've tried so far (renaming the server, changing the sharing locations, enabling logging). I just see the page attempt to reload but never successfully load. All the settings were actually saved, except the logging option.
Another comment for Peter and the module - the default share location is really wide and forces the user to wait through a long scanning process before they can configure the locations to their liking. I'm assuming the intention was to make it plug and play, so that after installation they can use their media player without having to configure anything, but it does come with a cost to those who plan to configure it.

Thanks for the feedback. Had have no issues with the config savings till now, but usually I wait till the first scan is completed and then I start with all the changes.
I'm also not happy with the default share location (/raid/data) but I have had no idea for a better one, except to force the users to create a special one or create on during installation. One possibility would be to use one within the module file tree, but then the plug and play idea would be gone. At least I've changed it in that way, that the configuration is backuped now on deinstallation and restored on reinstallation, so a new module version starts immediate with Your old settings.

I just tried to repro again and I can:
My scan is complete, but if I enable the log file (Maintenance -> Logging) and hit save changes, it will just sit and wait for the page to reload. If I stop that and just reload the config page from scratch, that will work, but the logging checkbox won't be checked (other settings, like the share path, *did* stick in the past).
My suggestion for the share location is to leave it blank (or a known empty folder) and force the user to set one up.

Have tried it now - works here like a charm You can't leave the share location blank - then the "/" is used or whatever is defined as root path - and that value must be defined and is not changeable. br Peter

after some unknown steps (perhaps a few reboots, but perhaps a smaller library as well) the problem seems to be gone. are you sure that you can't have an active, blank share location? i ask because i can configure things this way after installation. for example, if i uncheck all my shares, it will automatically check a blank share. so i've noticed a couple changes in behavior from 4.x: the 5.x server shows up almost immediately (compared to taking between 30-60 seconds with 4.x) on my ps3. however i do get some "can't access folder" type errors (which will go away if you wait) when browsing. it seems like the main reason to move to 5.x is for transcoding support, but i'm not getting a lot of info on how to set that up, especially on a 5200. have you got any form of transcoding working? i've x-posted this question here: thecususergroup.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=n5200wishlist&action=display&thread=3250&page=1

Of course I could giva an empty share as base, i.e some folder in the module tree, but then the plug and play would not work - and as I said - thats only on the first installation from now on.
For transcoding : there was indroduced a new transcoding scheme in 5.x - if You copy the /raid/data/module/TWONKYMEDIA/twonky/cgi-bin drectoyr to one of Your shares You wíll see there a file transcoding.html, in which the new transcoding is explained.
I'm in contact with one user of the module, who wants to do FLAC - MP3 transcoding. If he has a solution I may pack it into the next module version as a switch for activate/deactivate.

ya it's after reading transcoding.html that I got stuck. one big catch of this feature is that they don't include any transcoding software "out of the box". and I haven't been able to get any of that software installed on the 5200 myself to try it out.
i think a clean solution would be individual modules for each transcoding tool/app, or a collection of them.
they would obviously be useful with or without twonky, but the next twonky module could then default it's .location files to the paths used by those modules for "plug and play" loveliness.

The user I mentioned in my last post uses flac from the FIREFLY module and lame from the SQUEECEZENTER module. The problem now is, that FLAC -> MP3 encoding is a 2 step approach - flac does FLAC to WAV and lame does WAV to MP3 - and it seems not so easy to set it up so that flac pipes the input to lame.
Actually I have not tried it myself.

installed this new version (upgrading from 4.x), but I am having some problems. I am also seeing the problem with too wide a share. I have manually selected folders, but my entire share is still showing up as available. What did I miss?

That seems to be a common problem of the 5.x versions. I have defined as default value the /raid/data folder as starting point to have a plug and play version. On enabling the module twonkymedia immediate starts with scanning. If You now define the shares within the configuration pages it seems that twonkymedia keeps the old scanned data, even if You do a restart.
Please do a Rebuild datatbase via the maintenance menue of the twonkymedia configuration, that should do a complete new clean database, only containing media files within Your defined shares.

Do a deinstallation, then a new installation - Your settings will remain. The deinstallation will delete the database completly - may take some time.
Do You have a valid 5.x licence ?
