I had 5x 1.5 TB Seagates running on v2.00.14 even though they weren't supported.
I just made the upgrade to v2.00.15 today without any issues. The total upgrade time, including reboot, was about five minutes. No data was lost, the RAID rebuilt correctly with all five disks, and the data is streaming over SMB correctly.
ACL permissions were lost, but otherwise nothing bad happened.

Changed to this firmware about 2 weeks ago.
Everyday I shutdown the NAS by power-button (and use scheduled auto power-on) and have had for 3 times now that the NAS hung in the shutdown process. Don't know if it is a firmware issue, but I have it since then.
That's the only issue I can mention in this firmware, everything else is working perfect with me (4x Samsung T166 500gb disks)

By the way, I tried to revert to SP1 (from SP2 RC1) and the problem in the same.
Following Perterfu's comment, I tested on my Win XP SP3 station and offline files work fine.
So it is related to Vista only, and since I updated to 2.0.15. It worked perfectly before (2.0.10).
Thanks if you can help!

peterfu, I have found your very useful info here thecususergroup.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=n5200firmware&action=display&thread=1907 regarding downgrading the firmware. Is it safe for me to downgrade from 2.0.15 to 2.0.14 using the 2.0.14 script? I suspect the problem comes from the upgrade of the samba version in the firmware to 3.0.33, but I don't want to lose any data. Everything seems to work fine with 2.0.15 except offline files with vista sp1 clients (which I absolutely need). Also, in case 2.0.14 still doesn't work, is it safe to go back to the last version that worked for me (2.0.10), and which script should I use? Many thanks for your help, Manni

It should be safe, bit if You doubt that, then do the downgrade without discs. - shutdown the box - remove the discs - do the downgrade - do some basic configuration - shut down the box - insert the discs (same tray as before) - fire it up I post a script for FW 2.00.10 within the next 2 hours (same link as the other one) br Peter

This is extremey kind of you, thanks a lot! By the way, do you think that before downgrading I should try to reset to factory default with firmware 2.0.15? The message I get when I try to synchronise offline files is: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." I tried to uninstall the MS Hotfix KB955302 which can cause problems with Samba 3.0.33 (made no difference), and I also tried to allow NTLMv2 in the security protocols (as thanks to your feedback we established it worked with XP SP3, and I think SP3 uses NTLM/LM for authentication while Vista uses NTLMv2). But this didn't make any difference either. I had also tried to disconnect my network drives and remap them, and tried to disable and re-enable the file cache on the Thecus. I can't see anything else to try, apart from a factory reset and reconfig (which shouldn't lose my RAID info)... Thanks again for your help EDIT: Sorry for the OT comment, but as I was checking your website I noticed you seem to enjoy a very nice bike... I own an R1150GS myself ;D EDIT2: ooops, hadn't seen the crash, hope you're ok (or was it your friend's?) now and the bike as well!

A factory reset is always worth a try before doing the downgrade. Have found some comments with google concerning the authentication issue with samba and vista (cahnging some registry entry) :
What irritates me a bit is, that the newer version of samba should solve that - may be theSP2RC3 update changed the registry and the roll back did not work completly. I own a Honda Varadero 1000 XLV - fortunatly no crashes. The crash happend to my freind with his 3 day old Harley Electra Glide - a car hit him - and yes, he is well now.

Thanks for all your help, I have just downloaded the 2.0.10 downgrade script.
I will try the registry tweak, then I'll try resetting to factory default, and finally downgrade to 2.0.14 then 2.0.10.
I'll update the thread to let you know at which stage it got better (if it ever does!).
Many thanks again,
Manni
PS: glad your friend is ok. The varadero is a cool bike!
EDIT: registry entry is the same, so moving to factory reset...

The Samba version 3.0.33 included in th Fw 2.00.15 has definitly problems with vista, there was released the version 3.00.34 on 20th, January 2009 - here the bug fix section:

Yes, this is why I tried to uninstall the hotfix (but that didn't solve the problem). Anyway, after trying a reset to factory default which didn't change anything, I reverted to 2.0.14 thanks to your script (I left the discs in), did a reset to factory default, and the problem is solved: offline files work like a charm. So just for everyone to know: 2.0.15 is INCOMPATIBLE with Vista offline files (tested with SP1 and SP2 RC1), probably because of the new version of Samba. So I gess the upgrade is only recommended if you need Samba 3.0.33 for Windows Server 2008 and don't need offline files. Last working firmware in this area is 2.0.14. Thank you so much Peterfu for all your help , I am still waiting to hear from Thecus support!

... I am still waiting to hear from Thecus support! I received an answere that the new SAMBA Version, which fixes this problem will be integrated into next FW release and that FW 2.00.15 is only recommended if You need the Windows Server 2008 AD connection. br Peter

Hmmm...makes me think the FW 2.00.15 should have been/stayed a beta version.
