Hello from Greece! I have bought n299 NAS product in October 2008 and I have installed only one 500GB hard disk drive (WDC WD5000YS-01MPB1). I followed the instructions and built a JBOD "array". I have upgraded to the latest beta firmware 1.00.34. I didn't create any new folders, just used the default "service folders" to store my data. For example, I stored my music, pictures and TV recordings in "usbhdd", my programs and documents in "album", my e-mails in "iTunes" etc.
Everything was working fine since I returned from a small trip. Strangely, I saw that the folder "usbhdd" was almost empty! My subfolders "Pictures", "Music" and "Movies" were lost with many gigabytes inside! Only one single .torrent file was still there, in the root of "usbhdd", this one didn't disappeared! I really can't understand what happened. My NAS didn't even got started (it was powered off) during my trip and I remember that the last night before my trip, I was watching a movie stored in my NAS (in "Video" folder though). So everything was working fine and I didn't have a single sign of data loss. I have to add that all other folders and data still remain intact. This phenomenon happened only in "usbhdd" folder!
From the used capacity (376,478 MB 79%), I think that my data are still there, but I can't access them. I am not exactly sure, though, since I don't remember the accurate size of my subfolders. Finally, I have many thousands of small files (photos) stored in my NAS, but I don't think that this has something to do with that damage. Also, I never connected any usb device on n299.
I am an advanced PC user (also worked for years as a technician) with lot of experience in data recovery. Generally, I don't believe in data loss. This time though, the file system is different and I don't want to try anything before ask here. I just want my data back. Thank you.
