My first N1200 died within a week - the lan ports became unresponsive, no amount of rebooting would get it back, which of course prevented reinstalling...
They replaced it.
My second one didn't like the 1Tb Seagate that had been supplied with it. But fortunatly Thecus had a patch for that in the pipeline so I didn't have to wait long.
SO I have a working 1Tb N1200. So I load all my music and some vids, and then shut it down to take on holiday with me (along with my media player and my Soundbridge Radio).
On arrival, plug it in, press start... SCREEEECHHHHH! The fan has died. No amount of poking and prodding will cause it to shut up.
The highly technical solution? Undo the case, take out the disk, unscrew the mainboard from the case, reach underneath and pull the fan connector off.
So far, touch wood, it has shown NO sign of overheating.
So
Pity the Soundbridge Radio won't see it (my Soundbridnge M1000 does) - I wonder if I can work out how to install Firefly on it...

You should check the system temperature. It is located at /var/tmp/temperature. Mine is 44. But I wonder how frequent it will update. BTW, if the fan is dead, the N1200 suppose will beep every half an hr. I found that because the replacement is 2 pin fan. A 3 pin fan will provide rpm value and makes N1200 happy again without beeping.
