Please help!! I have a popcorn hour that wont play any of the files on my NAS have read thru many posts on many forums with people having similar issues (with thecus devices only) basically the SMB doesnt work, or doesnt seem too..
I see no option on my n2100 for enabling NFS can you tell me how to do this?
also if any popcorn hour owners have actually got there thecus n2100 to work with the PCH can you tell me exactly what file path you used to your files .. as i am tearing my hair out
thanks

With NFS, you do not have to specify the /raid/... you just need HDDNAME/ where HDDNAME is your you shared disks. If you need to specify a location for media files, then add that. You will also need to add you IP network to the allowed network option.
This of couse assumes that you have the NFS modules installed and running.

thanks, have now installed the NFS module (have given up on smb!), however the popcorn hour is still not seeing my files (no content found)
my thecus is set up as follows: IP: 192.168.11.118 (static) filesystem: JBOD media folder: rtorrent samba and NFS both running
i dont see any option for the "allowed network option"
i am using the following file path:
nfs://192.168.11.118:/rtorrent
but no joy!
have tried many variations of the above file path with no luck, can you kindly explain the exact syntax i must use in order to make this .
many many thanks

nope, that doesnt work either..
have installed the NFS module, have added my subnet to the list and the folder, have made 4 entries for the same folder:
/jbod/rtorrent /raid/rtorrent /raid1/rtorrent /rtorrent
have tried the following file paths:
nfs://192.168.11.118:/rtorrent nfs://192.168.11.118:/raid1/rtorrent nfs://192.168.11.118:/raid/rtorrent nfs://192.168.11.118:/jbod/rtorrent
none of them seem to work, so thats SAMBA that doesnt work between the popcornhour and the thecus n2100 and now NFS doesnt seem to work with the popcornhour either..
is there anything else i can try, or do i conclude that the thecus n2100 NAS is not compatible with the popular popcorn hour product?
any suggestions welcme
thanks

Have you contacted Thecus support? They will not support any 3rd party modules, but they may be able to help. What popcorn unit do you have? Is it connected to the same physical and IP network ? Did you setup the same network name for the N2100 and your popcorn unit? They must match. Also on your RAID setup, did you modify the ACL to be Browseable and public? Are you running the latest versions? Release Date : 12 September 2008 Firmware Version : 01-17-080818-15-POP-403 NMT Apps Version : 00-17-080808-15-POP-403 www.popcornhour.com/download/A110/firmware-A110.htmlAlso, if you are trying to get media from the N2100, why not use the Thecus Media server modules (from Thecus direct) Its free. I have had a quick look at the popcornhour website, and I see posts that have the same username. Please do not assume that the N2100 is not compatible with the popcorn unit just because you cannot get it working. I have setup NFS between several Thecus N2100 units and all worked well, after some teething problems. I used to have a Synology DS207 and I had NFS working on that as well. I do not have a popcorn unit.

Hi there, I run into the same problems as a lot of other users with a thecus 2100 in combination with a popcornhour device. Both devices are up to date with the firmware's. Three weeks ago, I bought my new HDX1000 (Popcorn hour) device. I was never able to play any file over the network from the nas. I tried really all different variations, nfs, samba, etc., checked the switch and disabled the jumbo frames. I'm able from the HDX1000 to connect to the nas, and see all the files on it. I can browse and select a file to play. And here the problem happens. It shows the buffering screen and than it returns to the list. Seems to me, it's not a network or rights problem, more like a not properly implemented file protocol on nas side. Because, I'm able to play the files from the local hd (inside HDX1000) and also over samba, if I access any windows computer locally in my network. Does another user setup his thecus nas 2100 and the hdx 1000 successfully, and how?
Of course, you could never have enough storage, so buy a new nas which is compatible :-). But I not want to buy a new one with new hd's, because I'm happy with my one.
Could you provide me a solution for this behaviour? Or else I have to throw the HDX1000 into my basket, because it's moreless useless for me..
Thanks a lot for any help!!!!!!!

Does another user setup his thecus nas 2100 and the hdx 1000 successfully, and how? I just got a Popcorn Hour A110 yesterday (upgraded FW to latest) and hit the same symptom with the buffering screen popping up for a few seconds and then returning to the movie listing when trying to play a movie off my wired N2100 (FW 2.01.10) device using samba protocol. Switching to NFS (NFSD-2.1.00) proved to be much more successful and I can now stream from the N2100 device. With my older XBOX (XBMC) I could read the same file off the N2100 using samba -- however my PC (Ubuntu Linux) exhibits the same behaviour as the Popcorn Hour (read access is denied). This is discussed in the following thread: thecususergroup.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=installationissues&action=display&thread=3007So as you say, I too suspect this is a protocol level issue (CIFS vs. SMB). Hope that helps. Shane.

You can use Twonky Media Server (as an UPnP Media Server) to stream your HD movies to Popcorn A110 - at least it works for me. Even I would like to setup a working NFS connection as well, but couldn't manage it. Can someone post a simple guide how to do it? I tried the NFSD module, even I can see the folder list with movie files, but when try to start it the popcorn keeps it "buffering" and after a minute it gives a blank screen - I have to restart the popcorn to use it again. thanx drszucs

relax ... I'm successfully using nfs streaming from my N2100 to a A110 for over two months now. Even Full HD streaming is working fine. From time to time the A110 does not want to reconnect to a nfs share. In this case I just hit the return button, then select the share again. This has always cured the problem. Must be some timeout from the A110. A word of advice: Use fixed IP or static DHCP for both the N2100 and the A110. In case of the A110 you are explicitly warned not to use DHCP by the manufacturer. Also be aware that share names are case sensitive. Here's a sample setup using the iTunes share of the N2100 Directory: /iTunes Subnet: 192.168.16.0/24 UID Map: myuser
and the corresponding A110 settings Share: nfs://192.168.16.54:/raid/iTunes User: myuser Pass: mypass
cheers getmythe

Getmythe - thanks for the advice I'll try that... As I'm not familiar with the NFS protocol, can you please explain what are the number after the subnet mask - 192.168.16.0/24? I didn't used that when I tried to setup my NFS, altought I could list the files in any directory shared via NFS... thx drszucs

Subnet specifies which hosts are allowed to connect to your nfs server.
In my example I have a C class subnet, e.g. all of my machines have an IP of 192.168.16.xx with a netmask of 255.255.255.0. For nfs the allowed hosts are therefore in the range 192.168.16.0/24. My nfs clients IP need to match the first 24 bit to be able to access the server. The first 24 bit translate to 192.168.16.
If you only want to grant a single machine access to your nfs server you may enter an IP without a mask getmythe

Thanks, that's clear now. Although using your NFS setup sample on Thecus still not working with my PCH A110. Is there a way to check the setup without any linux OS installed in the LAN? Can I mount NFS shares to WinXP? Or somehow to check the NFS share's properties/credentials? I don't have any log on PCH... (as I've been a proud owner of it for only two days)
