Hi, after sucessfull update to firmware V2.00.08 the wake up needs much time. In firmware V2.00.04 all disk start if needed at once. Now, each disc successively launched. With 5 Disk and 6 sec. per Disk the wake up needs 30 seconds How to synchronize this? Any Hints are welcome. regards, Holger

"In firmware V2.00.04 all disk start if needed at once" Thats because they weren't spinning down, so they didn't need to spin up. I dont think you can adjust how the system accesses disks out of spin down unless you did some hard core custom firmware chacking All I can suggest is probably lengthen the time between spin down. If you use it alot set it to every 6 hours or something.

Not true. The spin down with firmware V2.00.04 works perfect. All disk starts parallel and the system is ready after ~ 8 seconds.
Now the wake up makes for any single disk. And this needs to much time.

Hi hok4711,
I think it is an adaptation to the experience that some users reports, they lost a RAID 5 on boot sequence, perhaps the power supply has a short voltage dip, when all disks start on the same time, so an staggered spin-up of the disks, reduce significant the the peak load.

Hi Clag,
this is possible.
But we store all the Home directory of all XP Clients on the N5200. When the Disk's are in the sleeping mode, the Client frees at logon for 45 seconds.
Is there any possibility to recovery only all needed modules for spin down from the old firmware (V2.00.04)?

If you did have spin down working in 04 then my bad (few did) I doubt youll be able to reverse engineer 08 to have 04's spin down feature as its part of the firmware and not a module or something that can be installed and tweaked. Having said that it appears I'm wrong once in this thread already so I wouldnt mind being wrong twice ;D If setting a long spin down so only your first user is hit with this then I think your best option is to ask Thecus to support this. Maybe they can make it an option in the UI so you can have simultaneous spin up or sequential.....Maybe theyll get you a beta frimware to support this if your really lucky!

Hi hok4711, this function isn't a module, it's function of the FW so I think you can't change it. But how many times a day you have the case, that you must wait? If only a few times then have patience. If many times, maybe it's better you configure your N5200 otherwise, because it is not so good for normal disks, to have a lot start stop cycles a day. If you feel very disturbed, maybe you must apply the procedure to restore older FW like in an other Post described. sorry I have no better idea Perhaps Thecus can set a shorter time for staggered spin up in the next FW version 1 sec for each disk should be enough. clag

Hi friends,
I have started with the N5200Pro and firmware 2.00.04 about 6 weeks ago and I can definitely say that my 3x 1TB WD-RE2-GP drives (RAID5) spin-up one after each other and not at the same time.
After upgrade to 2.00.08 this behavior did not change.

have to agree, spin down behaviour has not changed. If you had "real" spin down occuring with .4 the spin up times & staggered start is exactly the same as with .8.
For someone to see all disks spin up and be online in approx. 8 secs I can only assume that they weren't actually spinning down, atleast not to a proper spun down state.
