So far so good. Upgrade went without a hitch. SC7 is working without a hitch. Enabled 30min timer on Disk Power Down so we'll see what happens in a bit! Curious to see if it works, or works with SC installed rather. I remember reading a bunch of posts where people thought their boxes or other NAS's spun down fine until SC was installed. No idea if that was pure speculation or something based on fact. Update 1: An hour later the system hasn't spun down. I've unmapped the shares from Windows as I think again I read that having them mapped causes windows to access the shares and prevent it from spinning down. So testing that theory now. If that doesnt work I'll try a reboot, maybe it takes a good old bounce to make the spin down changes work and not just applying them... Will post back once I get more results. It would be nice if the front LCD panel would say State: Spun Down or something to let you know

Unmapping the drives doesn't seem to work. Giving it a reboot now.
But on second thought I'm not sure my test is entirely accurate or valid either. I figured if the drives spun down I would see a noticeable decrease in noise, but maybe thats not the case since the fan is so loud.
Secondly, I thought hitting the SC web page from a spun down system versus spun up would see a noticeable access time difference but that doesnt seem to be the case. Hitting it spun up take abouts 4 seconds to load the page which is the same if the system has been sitting there idle for an hour.
So either it aint spinning down for me or Im not testing it right. Rebooting now and seeing if thats does anyting noticeable.

... again Thecus missed to fix some critical vulnerabilities. I encourage everyone who allows http/https access to the box to do the following changes to the configuration (SYSUSER and SERGETTY or SSHD modules required): APQ-390301in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf add the following lines: <Location "/setlang/index.html"> Deny from all </Location> KKM-798736in /etc/httpd/conf/php.ini change the allow_url_fopen statement to Off: allow_url_fopen = Off After the changes have been done run /opt/apache/bin/httpd -DSSL -k graceful You may want to check onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N5200_Firmware_2.00.04_Issues for further information. /Falk

Hi,
I just did an upgrade from, 2.00.04 to .08 and now it stands for about 60 minutes at 99% percent. How long would the upgrade take? What are your experiences?
Should I reset? But with webgui its not possible it says, upgrade running.
regards tom195

I successfully updated my N5200 a few times using the 2.00.08 firmware. However, each time, when the system reboot, the Product Information displayed after log in said that it is still running 2.00.04 firmware.
When I updated the firmware, the page clearly indicated that it was updating from 2.00.04 to 2.00.08, and I downloaded the 2.00.08 firmware from the Thecus home page.
Has this happened to anyone?

my upgrade took maybe 15 seconds. Maybe 20.
How do u know spin down is working? Just listening for the drives spinning up after 30min?

HI,
ok. Now I know that an upgrade shouldn't take 12 hours. I am not able to reboot via the GUI. It still says update is running.
pressing the power button shortly only let the box beep once.
So I see only pressing power 10 seconds and switch off und on again?
Is there the danger of screwing something up? Or should I use the SSH Console to check something? BTW where could I set up SSH users?
thanks a lot for your help Tom

you can't add the modules for ssh when the gui is not responding anymore So, yes a hard reboot is in order and yes it *could* harm, but *i* would do it anyway...

I've noticed this 99% issue several times in the past and I just did a hard reboot - nothing went wrong in my case. So I second what gideon007 told you..... Andreas

I've just upgraded my box to 2.00.08 without any issues...
I've only noticed, that after uploading and installing the firmware, the N5200 didn't reboot automatically and all the services were still stopped (so no HTTP, SSH and the like).
I've just shutdown the unit by pressing the big button at the front and starting it again.
But no other issues yet....

Updating to FW 2.00.08 went smoothly on my machine. HDD spin down works now and so does NSYNC. Haven't tested ISO mount but that feature sounds interesting.
To check if spin down really works just observe the start/stop count with the info module. Everytime a HDD spins down and up this count gets incremented by one.
