L.S.,
I have a new N299 with a Samsung HD753LJ harddisk (750GB). I followed the Quick Installation Guide. The Setup wizard detects the N299. My network configuration is: - Hostname : N299 - IP Type : DHCP - IP-address : 192.168.2.8 (and I see this also in my routers DHCP client list) - Netmask : 255.255.255.0 - Gateway IP : 92.168.2.1 (= my routers IP-adress)
After changing the Admin Password I pressed the "Start Browser" button. And now starts the problems. My browser returns the dutch message "De webpagina kan niet worden weergegeven". Translated in English "The webpage cannot be displayed".
Additional information: - No firewall on the desktop (only on the router) - All MAC-addresses are allowed - The DHCP Client list on the router returns IP-address and MAC address, but not the hostname - I use the upper (WAN) connection. The WAN LED blicks , so there is network activity - The HDD LED is off. So my NAS does not detect a HDD I think. - Tried to setup via another PC, same results
Anybody recognize this behaviour of the N299 ?? Appreciate any help.
Cheers, Ronny

You have entered wrong gateway address - it should be in 192.168.2.xxx subnet.

Yes thats an easy problem:
Please add the Webpage from your n299 to the trusted sites in your IE and it will work proper.

The gateway IP is 192.168.2.1 (a mistype of me i think), so that's not the problem.
I added the N299 webpage (192.168.2.8) to the trusted sites. The web interface still does not start. I the lower left corner I got the message: ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm
Any other suggestions ??

Dear Ronny, I've had the same problem before. It happens to me that I could not use 192.168.2.x address for N299 if I connect it via WAN interface (1st RJ45 connector). The LAN (2nd RJ45 connector) is reserved to use 192.168.2.254 by default. I can use 192.168.3.x address but as this subnet is reserved for Wireless, it interfers with my router DHCP as its DHCP kicks into action and confused my PCs. The moment I use 192.168.4.254, everything was perfect. - Chin Siong Homesite @ www.hongcs.per.sg

Thanx Chin Siong,
changing to 192.168.4.x was the perfect suggestion.
I also changed it in my router and all other PC's and laptops.
Now everything works again, including my NAS.
Cheers, Ronny
