Hi,
I just purchased a N299. So far everthing works really fine. the only thing I miss is to spin down the hard disks. and possible SFTP. Is there a chance to get at least the first feature in a FW update. Then the product would be perfect.
greetings wolfgang

How serious is it that the N299 doesn't have a spin down feature? If I have to leave it running for weeks at a time while I am out of the office will there be problems with the unit burning out? If there is a way to add this as a feature, I agree I hope it cound be added!

I also agree that a spin down feature is a must for such network devices

Add me to the list too, pls!
I'am using the device for backups, running nightly. A spinn down for the other 18 hours per day makes more than sense to me!
Cheers Ben

Hi to alll... also for me the spin down is a must...obviulsly i see that the n2050 has this function...and is more expensive and faster.... ok for home use the speed of the n299 is quite sufficent, but also for me the possibility to spin off the drive is very interesting. I'm an electronic...and think that is very simple to add this features.
so please thecus people, help another user to have the 100% of happines of this product....
thank's
roberto

Please please please add spin down. I thought it would be self-evident to have spindown by default on a network storage device - HDD burn out extremely quickly without spindown.
Again, please add functionality for this in the next firmware!

add me to the list of requesting spindown, a bit of code from someone could save a lot of trees - a good feature for the marketing guys to make some noise about!

Hi Thecus,
If you are unable to add spindown function to the N299 so please open telnet port in next firmware.
Then we can add the spindown function ourself

I've received my unit a few days ago. It works nicely, but I miss two features:
- HDD spin down - local backup to USB disk
I see that in eight month (OP dec '07) nothing has happened. So for me, the unit is going back today. I will order a Synology instead (they all have these features enabled, even the simplest models)

add me as well! Spin down ought not be too difficult to achieve via a firmware upgrade, unless of course there are crystal limitations, something I actually doubt very much.
Cheers,

In the 'beta' firware folder on www.thecus.com/Downloads/beta/ you can get the .34 firmware. I'm running it and disk spindown is a new feature. Isn't that great!? Hopefully it is working, because I didn't test it yet.

Hmmmm...just read on the Hexus forum that's just a fake option in this beta firmware. Hopefully they will implement it in the final version.
