Anyone had experiences (good or bad) with interfacing the N3200 with a digital media player?
I am looking to purchase a D-link Medialounge 520 sometime in the near future. I've read that the medialounge conforms to the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) standard, as does the Thecus N3200.
I'm not really sure what that means in terms of interfacing between the two systems. I'm hoping that it means plug and play interfacing between devices..... Much like iTunes server will interface with any device running the iTunes client on the same network.
Any related experiences would be appreciated.
Cheers,
-Sheldon

hi, my suggestion is that you wait till the new D-Link 802.11n comes out (All brands on the market is flicky, have problems) or build one yourself. Long term it be a game investment. That is what I did with it running Vista Media Center. Let me know if you need help.

Hiya,
Just been trying a Netgear EVA8000 "Digital Entertainer" (is that a magician who does close-up magic?)
Interesting results...after some testing, not complete by a long way!
Netgear software scans whole PC & makes a share of ANY directory with media in it - eek!)(lots to undo now). EVA8000 then searches whole lan for shares, and lists them - all of them...not tidy, but comprehensive. It works, but it needs a LOT of tidying up, just for browsing at least!
The mediabolic server seems superfluous as the Thecus shares are there & can be used by the EVA8000. Film showing is a bit jerky, even though on 1000Mbps netgear switches. EVA8000 is only 100Mbps. Interestingly, I was stunned to see every film file listed 17 times on the player, so some more work to do there then!
Short answer = it works but...
Stuff on my "things to do" list for this: 1. find out & fix mediabolic 17x issue - or just stick to shares. 2. playlists for all my mp3s - the play in ALPHABETIC order - sheesh! 3. Tags for all video files 4. File everything in a single place only & hide the backup from the EVA8000! 5. Once finished testing, then buy some proper drives for Thecus.
Good luck & enjoy.

I basically came to the same conclusion.
The currently technology is still pretty flakey. I think I am going to wait till the new D-link medialounge comes out AND then upgrade my router from "g" to "n" and see what kind of performance I get.

hi, please go and get a or build a HTPC . That is best I am doing that currently and enjoying it. But most of the time I just watch recorded/download movies from the MCE instead of the Thecus. The thecus is used for data backup and my storage it streams 700MB file over 802.11g wifi .

Hi all, I have all my media on an N5200pro (sorry to intrude, I know I should be in a different forum but I’m interested in other peoples experience with the eva8000) and I have both it and my eva connected to a dlink dgs-1008d switch. With this setup I don’t suffer any flicker at all, not even when streaming hi-def material. Have you guys tried the latest firmware? As for untidy media have you tried enabling folders on the eva? My apologies if you’ve already tried these things. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi,
I got a Popcorn Hour Mediaplayer and.....it goes wonderful. I dont use any mediaserver software from the thecus. For movies, special for 1080p mkv, the best is an NFS share. For me even the 720p movies play normal with SMB connection, and that with 54mbit WLAN!
So I think it is the best when a Mediaplayer can direct access to the files on a NAS. For only music player something like iTunes is ok, but for movies it dont work that good. Not all mediaserver software can play all formats, but if you have a direct folder access you can watch all formats the player can display.
Benny.
