I have N5200Pro at office. The fan sounds quite loud but acceptable in office environment. Anyway, that noise is too loud for home application. Now I'm looking to place N3200 at my home's living room as a centralized media server.
So how about N3200 noise level? Does it use variable speed fan? Can you sit next to it and watch movie or listen music?
I saw many treads about fan modification in other Thecus models. I hope that Thecus already concerns this issue for its "Home" NAS server.
I just bought one and the noise level is awesome... I can hardly hear it at all. Comparing it to my N2100.... which is so loud I turn it on only when I need to use it...... the N3200 is perfectly quiet.
It has a big 12v .09A) Hypro Bearing fan on the back .
Only trouble is trying to get it to work properly. The latest firmware seems to be causing me a heap of problems. It was working fine but then I installed the new firmware and have had boot-up problems since..... that is, it doesn't boot at all and just hangs during the boot cycle
I am running one of these in my living room, my first experience with a nas drive - I am runnign pretty quiet drive and I am more than happy with the noise levels and I doubt I will hear it at all when i drop it behind my tv stand.
