A good power management feature would be nice.
The unit never turns off the harddrive or the fan, so there is no sleep function at all. For a NAS device of this price range, i would expect a working sleep function.
(Firmware 1.0.0.6, Seagate 7200.10 500Gb harddisk)

Yes a better fan management would be nice. 2.5inch drive in mine and the thing does not even get warm. The fan should go down to a quiet level. At the moment my n1200 is in the living room. As soon as I get chance its getting put in the attic and as far away from me as possible. The thing is far to d**n noisy!

I may write a module for better fan control, and I currently have a Gentoo chroot on my N1200, I will see if I can switch environments and get cpu frequency scaling working.
As for a sleep function it will depend what power saving options the mpc83xx board supports in the datasheet.
