Hi guys,
I just purchased N1200 NAS with western digital WD3200YS hard disk installed.
After I copy some files(around 2G files) into the NAS, and use the web GUI to turn it off. Then system hang and all LAN led was on.
However, I can complete turn (all LED turn off) of the NAS before. When I press the power buttom, it reboot again. Could anyone help me to solve the problem?
Regards, Terence

Hi,
I manage to connect N1200 with my PC via the serial port. and got following:
In the first try: ============= umount: Couldn't umount /var: No such file or directory umount: Cannot remount /dev/mtdblock2 read-only umount: Couldn't umount /etc: Inappropriate ioctl for device umount: Cannot remount /dev/loop0 read-only umount: Couldn't umount /: Device or resource busy umount: Cannot remount /dev/sda3 read-only umount: Couldn't umount /initrd/boot: Inappropriate ioctl for device umount: /dev/root busy - remounted read-only umount: Cannot remount rootfs read-only umount: Couldn't umount /: No such file or directory The system is going down NOW !! Sending SIGTERM to all processes. Sending SIGKILLmd: md1 in immediate safe mode to all processemd: md0 in immediate safe mode s. The system is halted. md: stopping all md devices. md: md1 switched to read-only mode. md: md0 switched to read-only mode. ============ In the second try: umount: Couldn't umount /var: No such file or directory umount: Cannot remount /dev/mtdblock2 read-only umount: Couldn't umount /etc: Inappropriate ioctl for device umount: Cannot remount /dev/loop0 read-only umount: Couldn't umount /: Device or resource busy umount: Cannot remount /dev/sda3 read-only umount: Couldn't umount /initrd/boot: Inappropriate ioctl for device umount: /dev/root busy - remounted read-only umount: Cannot remount rootfs read-only umount: Couldn't umount /: No such file or directory The system is going down NOW !! The system is halted. md: stopping all md devices. md: md1 switched to read-only mode. md: md0 switched to read-only mode. Synchronizing SCSI cache for disk sda: Power down. ===========================
I note that in the first try, there is no "Synchronizing SCSI cache for disk sda:" display on my terminal.
Unluckily, I still cannot turn off the NAS completely, and all LAN LEDs are still on. If I hold down the Power button for 3 seconds, the NAS reboot again.
Thanks, Terence

Just back from a 6 day tour.
Seems that your problem is not trivial. The integrity of your file system looks messy. If you can identify which particular task causing the problem, (by typing "ps -aux") simply don't run it or kill it. But the chance is small.
The quick and dirty way is to let the wizard to reformat the hard disk again. Use FTP and wired connection to transfer large file, may have lower chance to corrupt your file system, because ftp is simpler protocol than samba+WinXP file transfer.

Hi,
Thanks! I replaced the 3.5” hard disk with 2.5” and no problem occurred so far and the samba working properly.
Is there any method to data integrity of the hard disk, like fsck command? If after power failure occurred, how can I perform this check manually?
Best Regards, Terence

The file system of N1200 is lxxxfs, I forgot the name Type "mount" will display the name of the active mount. "fsck" should be for ext2/3. Frankly, I never used it. Besides, not sure the N1200 busybox package comes along with it. If you want to explore the internal file system more, I suggest you change the root password at the serial console, and enable the SSH during power up. Then you can explore the N1200 over the network rather sitting next to the N1200 through serial cable.
