Fine..... but how can I test it without having the rest of the software? Btw: what is the role of the linux agent: will it act as the backup server are as a client?

FYI, I was able to get the linux agent for BackupExec 10.d to run on my N5200 but it never exported any volumes in my BackupExec server so I couldn't actually perform any backups. I can see the N5200 in BackupExec in the list of unix agents but nothing shows up underneath it.
What I did was install the ssh module on the N5200 then used scp to copy beagent and all the shared libraries from /opt/VRTSralus/bin to /tmpfs on the N5200. I also had to copy a couple shared system libraries over as well (also to /tmpfs). I also copied /etc/VRTSralus/ralus.cfg to the N5200 then used the beagent flag to specify an alternate configuration file. It starts up and appears to run but just never actually exports any volumes to the BackupExec media server...
I ended up backing up my N5200 by mounting it from my linux box and running the linux agent on that. Obviously it's not backing up all the N5200 volumes but at least it's backing up the data on the RAID volumes, which is what I really care about. FYI, in order to get this to work I had to force the N5200 to mount using version 2 of NFS (nfsvers=2) in order for BackupExec to work. I found a tech note on the Veritas website about an NFS issue and their suggestion was to use version 2 to fix it. It took me a number of tries to get it to work but I was finally able to...

There is also a legacy BE agent that is compatible with versions 8.x and 9.x as well. This legacy version is much simpler, I guess you would have less trouble configuring it... Grab it here: seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262592.htm
