I have N5200, but am very unhappy that there is no UpNP Media Server. This is a very serious shorcoming.
Is there a near plan to upgrade th efirmware to enable Media Server?
Something like Twonky Vision would help.

I agree as well.
Although, I'm not sure what good posting things here does, I've never seen a reply from anyone officially at Thecus on any posting, even ones asking simple questions.
Is anyone from Thecus actually monitoring these boards? Can you please reply and let us know?

I have N5200, but am very unhappy that there is no UpNP Media Server. This is a very serious shorcoming. Twonky sells their media server on their website for 19,95 £á. Would SMB customer pay an extra for a feature they probably never use? I doubt it.

Hi everyone,
I have justed this threat in the off. Thecus Board.
... Posted: Wed Nov 01, 2006 3:21 pm Post subject: Who understands Thecus strategy? or Why is! Reply with quote Hi Everyone,
who is able to answer one simple question?
Why does it seem so complicated to implement a Streaming Server in to the N5200?
The N5200 is one of the most powerful SMB NAS Appliance´s however this appliance does not provide a Streaming Server option- which is very disappointing! It is a very powerful appliance which should be able to host a streaming server. Furthermore are there many companies like TwonkyMedia or MeadiaBolic who offer those streaming servers. Is this just a licensing question? I as a costumer would happily pay the 19 € for a streaming server!
Will there at least be a an option in the GUI to implement a streaming server?
DEAR Thecus - I can not imagine that i am the only customer who wants to use a streaming server in the N5200! PLEASE REACT! ! !PLEASE RETHINK YOUR STRATEGY ! ! ! Give me a sign! A loyale costumer ! ...
And now my question what do you think, when will there be the opportunity to get the streaming server function in the N5200?
Greetings - TF

The other option (which I'd actually prefer) is for Meda Adapter companies to develop devices that do not require software to be running on a server. My Turtle Beach Audiotron searches available SMB shares for MP3s and WAV files it can play... no need for server software and any number of available SMB shares can be accessed on numerous different machines. I wish more Media Adapters took this approach but for a wider selection of formats (mp3, ogg, flacc, DixX, mpeg, etc). Not to say I wouldn't like the N5200 to support media server software though..

.... My Turtle Beach Audiotron searches available SMB shares for MP3s and WAV files it can play... no need for server software and any number of available SMB shares can be accessed on numerous different machines. .... Yes I am also using a Audiotron Device - but this is not very usable! If I am using the Audiotron to search for all share´s - this would take a lot of time. F.e. my PC provides one share with about 12 GB of Mp3s and it took nearly 30 Minutes to get the complete inventory with the Audiotron. And if I switch the device off an on - I have to make a new inventory search. Very disappointing! If my N520 would have server option it could handle the inventory topic by it´s self. And I would not have to wait while I am accessing with a uPnP device. I was just talking to Thecus germany - and nice lady Mrs. Chang - she said to me that Thecus wants to implement a streaming server from Mediabolic. But she said also that there is right now no deadline terminated - maybe CeBit time 2007? She also said that they don not know right now - how the costumer is gonna pay the license costs for the streaming server. But it is a pitty - David Jaw from Thecus Taiwan wrote to me ... So far there is no plan to add streaming server function to N5200 .... Hmmm I have no idea what i could trust or believe in? Hope won´t die! Greetings - TF

There is already a ushare module for N2100. Nice information! THX! Is the usable in the N5200? Give me a hint - I as a dumb end user do not know how to implement this into a N5200!

I don't think so. N2100 is using IOP processor, and N5200 is using Celeron.
