With a view to installing a new OS on my 5200, I want to get a new mini IDE flash disk/DOM, to replace the one with the Thecus OS. (This is the method that is generally recommended on this forum.) But for the life of me I don't know where to buy one. They go by so many names, I'm not even sure what I need any more. Anyone done this already? Does a miniIDE=>CF adapter work? What do I need to buy, exactly?
thanks
john

any ATA device with a 44 pin laptop style female connector at 90 degree should work for you. I play with a Laptop 2.5" drive and a home made cable, but any ATA device that uses the same kind of connector should work. Now, if you want a replacement, than something like these should work. www.e-itx.com/apacer-adm-ii-44-pin-dom-90d.htmlNot that I endorse them, just an example, there are lots of them out on the market. You also have to make sure you get the right direction, or it will plug on in the wrong direction and will not fit in the case. I think it was a right handed module that you need, but you should double check if buying something. Teng

I was thinking about a laptop drive, but I wasn't sure about the power requirements. If I can find a cable, that's what I will do. Tell me, if you installed *nix on the laptop drive, did you put the scratch partition on it, too, or on the main RAID array? How fast would a DOM wear out if you put the scratch on it?

I had a power outage (UPS went on), and it seemed to take a long time to get power back, so I turned off the box by pressing the power button on the from. The box went down fine. Power came back, and I tried to start the N5200Pro, but it really never came back up. It seemed to be stuck on "self testing..." (I thought). So I took it apart and I found the Flash drive that it boots on. Being really old, I was sure this was the issue, and that is simply couldn't boot it. I was wrong. I found out, that it actually DID try to boot, and while trying to start the disk, it failed and rebooted. My suspicion went over to the PSU, that is has been so worn out that it could not handle the peak turning on the disk. So I swapped the PSU, and everything was back up again. Now the Flash drive IS really old, so I am expecting this to be the next faulty item. How to put firmware on a new one? I am running firmware version 2.00.18.8 as I have large disks in it. I found and downloaded N5200_N5200PRO_DOM_2.00.16.bin (and N5200_N5200PRO_DOM_2.00.16_64MB.bin) Shoud I just copy that image with DD, rufus or similar and then firmware update to 2.00.18.8 Regards, Lars.

I am also strugling with my N5200Pro, which is stuck at boot in "Self Testing" after a power failure. Thecus is no longer sharing the [...]Downloads/DOM/... folder. Thecus support kindly offered to rebuild the RAID remotely in another PC but, in any case, I would like to try my best to revive my good old NAS hardware.
Does anyone know where I could get the file N5200_N5200PRO_DOM_2.00.16.bin, or could anyone, who might have downloaded it when it was made available by Thecus, willing to share it with me? Any help would be great! Cheers! João

Hi. Sorry for getting into your topic. I have a similar problem. There is N5200, DOM died. A message hangs on the NAS Self-testing screen for a long time. I bought an IDE 44-pin male-male adapter, connected it via IDE-USB to a PC. Indeed, the DOM is out of order. Found a new DOM, but empty. Question: Where can I download the native ThecusOS image for N5200? Thank you in advance.
