My N5200 is on the floor, so LCD is much lower than my eyes and thus almost unreadable. I have to bow down very much to read anything from LCD. I'm thinking to replace LCD by other kind like LED or OLED which have much better readable angles. So, the question: Is LCD in N5200 standard 2 line integrated VFD with serial bus as many others i can see in radio shack stores?

BUT -- BIG BUT -- it is not clear that the LCD is hooked directly onto the mother board. It appears from tracing through the source code (and there is still a lot of uncertainty about it) that the LCD is actually attached to the AVR (an Atmega168 with thecus-custom firmware), and thus only the AVR can talk to the LCD directly.

this is not problem. I don't want to change functionality at this stage, just want to change LCD first.

Then I think that as long as you pick a matrix orbital lcd that has the same command set as the one installed in the n5200, it should work.

Actually, whatever you use will have to comply with the same commands as the LCD currently installed. I'm pretty sure its a matrix orbital. Maybe you can get yours off (there are two screws, I couldn't manage to get the second one loose but didn't try that hard) and check the model number.

sunjw,
your examples are both LCD. What is the reason to change LCD to LCD? I'm looking for LED or Vacuum type - these types have much better contrast and readable angles.

cheburashka, i know it has to be compatible with current one. I tried to look in stores for ANY alternative displays at first stage and found nothing. So, there is no problem with compatibility since there are no other displays available

Those I suggest two examples have compatible connector pins and power output for original LCD display interface. The reason is you can use the external module more near to your working location and sight. Please browese following website for VFD compatible module: www.noritake-elec.com/uversion.htmI'm not sure whether anyone you want can work correctly and won't damage your system.

So, there is no problem with compatibility since there are no other displays available There are plenty, but not at radio shack It is not enough that it has the same number of pins or the same number of rows and characters. A replacement has to obey the same COMMAND SET as the one in there now. LCD panels are not standardized among manufacturers. Your first step has to be opening the case, unscrewing the back, and identifying the model number. Then you can do a search for compatible devices. Let me know if you manage to do it -- like I said, I couldn't get that second screw off.

Thecus uses this LCD: NEWTEC NC2002B-B/W-PS01 www.newtec.com.tw/products-set.htmsunjw, this looks much better I think CU20025ECPB and CU20029ECPB are compatible with Thecus. I don't believe there are many different standards with the same connector. Also those 2 displays supports 2 command sets. Only remained: how to get it
