Hi, today I've been asked by user jstachow if I could do a change in the SlimServer module in order to enable external MySQL database connections. Here are the steps you need to do in detail: 0) You need SSH and SYSUSER module 1) Login as user sys (i.e. with PuTTY) 2) cd /raid/data/module/SLIMSERVER/slimserver/MySQL 3) vi my.tt 4) navigate with the cursor keys to the line starting with "bind-address" 5) Press key "i" 6) Press key "#" 7) Press key "ESC" 8) Press key "Z" two times 9) restart SlimServer, i.e. with module enable/disable Hope these steps are understandable enough even for non-experienced Linux users. The case of the commands and letters above is important (especially in vi ) User jstachow tried this and reported success. Maybe I'll try to implement something for this setting in an upcoming SS release (if I don't forget it meanwhile, so please remind me then ). Andreas

Hi Andreas,
thank you for the excellent manual.
Works well with one additions: in the same file the number for the max. connections is set to 4; this could be to low. Set the value to 40, to avoid an error message.

Hi Jörg,
thanks for testing!
This would be another addition for an upcoming SS module release.

Please make any option like this selectable! The thecus is already wasting memory that could be used for cache by running 10 apache child processes (how many does an embedded box need?). Why should mysql size itself to accomodate 20 connections if most users are only using 4? in fact, there appear to be 10 mysqld's running currently on my thecus box. Does slimserver use that many separate connections?
Thanks,
-Peter
