Well this must add a few features, iSCSI at a guess, hopefully Quote fixed and other bugs, fixed? Might look the same as the N5200Pro if anyone has one yet?

Hi;
sounds really intersting. But why give us thecus not more information about the changes. That's bad ...

No it's not bad! Bad is to make Thecus bad for not documenting a beta. No one forces you to install it, in fact I wager no one recommends it. The only thing Thecus should not do IMHO is to make betas accessible by everyone.

thats right. But when the vendor gives the changes to customer to install a Firmware (also Beta Releases) which makes posible promised functions (@ the moment I'm used the Betaversion 1.00.11.3) then he can support us a little better (we test the beta software a little better for him ). regards, Holger

I just can't understand how you can install a beta firmware you know nothing about. Really. The one I did install was the 7.5 or so and only because Omega did take a look and found some stuff out about it. If it's undocumented beta stay clear.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I am currently running 1.00.10 and don't plan to upgrade to another firmware unless there is a compelling feature/bugfix.
Those would include: - working snapshots - better power management / UPS support. - Some of the N5200PRO features (maybe) - Serious bugfixes / stability improvements

The only reason I went to 1.00.11.3 was to over come the Blank LCD and Quota problems (atm seems to be working). But I don't plan to upgrade to 2.00.00.11 without more information. I am hoping for better AFP speeds, logs not auto clearing (which started with 1.00.11.3, but can live with that for now).

Well, since no one seems to be willing jump on this, and I don't have any critical data on it yet, I thought I'd give it a try. You know, the typically thing, backup the FLASH drive, then cross finger and update. First impression, as I have not had much time to play with it yet.
Seems to boot a little slower, but other than that once it is up, it runs fine.
Here are the new things from the Web Admin.
1. The service status for the NSYNC service is working now, it shows the correct status now. 2. Print Server has a new Restart Service function 3. Power Management has been added (scheduled power on/off) with two settings per day one for on and one for off. Set in 5 minute interval. ;D 4. RAID screen has been changed, now including graphical representation of the disk space and what it is used for. Looks like you can create multiple RAID, but don't quote me on it, as my disk space is all used up and so I didn't give it a try. 5. Space allocation menu gives you the ability to allocate space for NAS storage, iSCSI, or Target USB. Yes, iSCSI ;D is now supported, but as before, space is not sharable, so if you allocate space for iSCSI, that space can not be used for anything else, same with Target USB. 6. Current Modules still works on this version. 7. Not sure if this was there before, but looks like more data added to the LCD, mine is in my server room, so I usually don't look at the LCD so I was not sure if these items are truly new, or if they were here already in 1.00.10.
Pretty much the firmware from the N5200Pro.

Maybe a stupid question but couldn't find an answer here: how to you backup the flash drive? And how would you copy back the backup if needed?

Good question, I couldn't find anything on backing up the Flash drive. So far it sounds good, might try it out, test the AFP again. Keep us informed when you've had more time to play with it. Thx

Can you verify the module install functionality is the same and current modules developed will work? I think this is critical to many of us who use these to add additional capability.
It is good to see that Thecus is looking to support the current owners and upgrade the functionality of the n5200 with the PRO features.

I also installed this firmware and did some tests on the ISCSI speed. Running Windows Vista Ultimate.
1000 small files with a total of 1.3Gb
To ISCSI --> 87 seconds, 15Mb/s To Share --> 85s , 15.3 Mb/s From ISCSI --> 76s , 17 Mb.s From share --> 108s , 12 Mb/s
1 VOB file 1Gb
To ISCI --> 34s , 29 Mb/s To Share --> 26s ,38 Mb/s From ISCI --> 35s , 28.5 Mb/s From Share --> 57s , 17 Mb/s
Conclusion:
Reading is much faster , writing a bit slower. I decided to reserve only 500 Mb for the raid and the rest for a ISCSI device. Advantages:
-Recycle bin on the ISCSI disk. -I can use Windows security inside folders -Reading speed is great. -It's just a normal disk in Vista.
I will now test some other features.

Great post ranger!
Question about iSCSI ; can you have more than one PC access an iSCSI device at once without data corruption / race conditions etc?
