Excellent, Andreas! I've made the change via SSH and rebooted the box. My girlfriend confirms that she can now access her home share via AFP! I wonder if they perceived some risk to using the standard "shadow" accounts? Or maybe this was just Friday afternoon coding. Andrew.

Happy to hear that it's working again... If all bug fixes would be so easy..... But Thecus should think about it and make a decision on how to do the user authentication for AFP access!! Andreas

I'll hand the solution to them on a plate.

#%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_unix.so account required pam_unix.so password required pam_unix.so shadow session required pam_unix.so It is the local user authentication setting for AFP. #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_winbind.so account required pam_winbind.so session required pam_unix.so This is ADs authentication setting fot AFP And if you have this problem ,maybe you can apply authentication again.

Try the follow conf ,it could support local and ADs in the same time. ------------------------------- #%PAM-1.0 auth sufficient pam_winbind.so auth required pam_unix.so account sufficient pam_winbind.so account required pam_unix.so password required pam_unix.so shadow session required pam_unix.so

Good tip! I'm not using AD so I can stay as I am, but this does provide the reason why that file has been changed between the '04 and '05 firmwares. Presumably Thecus were getting complaints that AFP didn't work with AD.
Lets see what they do in this area when 1.00.07 comes out.
Andrew.
