Can anyone tell me if they have successfully used the Thecus N2100 as a music server for products like the Squeezebox 3 or the Roku Soundbridge??? I am really looking at purchasing one of these players but I really want the player to stream direct from the Thecus rather that install any software to drive it or if there is anyway to install software on the Thecus like slimserver? Please help Cheers

I've used the 2100 with J.River MediaCenter and Roku Photobridge - don't see why it shouldn't work with anything that can map SMB or Windows file shares.

I have an N2100 which works great with a modded XBox (Xbox mediacenter). I mounted N2100's folder thru SMB, and don't need extra support from N2100.
SoundBridge should work, because it is using DAAP protocol.
Don't know what protocol Squeezebox uses, so don't have a clue whether it will work with N2100.

I've done some research on this.
I don't think the squeezebox will work natively with the yesbox, because it does not support connecting directly to itunes.
You have to install slimserver on a separate computer, and mount your itunes folder from your yesbox so that slimserver can access it.
This is obviously not a very good solution, because it essentially doubles network traffic (streams from yesbox to PC, then from PC to Squeeze box), and forces you to keep a computer on all the time.
For some reason, makers of squeezebox didn't think itunes connectivity was very important. Their product depends completely on having another computer running slimserver. about the only thing you can use the squeeze box for when your computer isn't on appears to be listening to internet radio stations. Slimserver does however support quite a few other protocols besides Apple's daap format.
Bottom line... your itunes server on the yesbox is basically useless, you need a separate computer to run slimserver, and your yesbox is reduced to being a simple file server.
What would really be cool is if thecus could add slimserver support to the yesbox. slimserver is pretty cool, speaks all the other protocols that the itunes server doesn't, and has a killer UI.
