What I have recognized is, that if You create public browseable folders you can access them via NFS from a linux box withoút username and password. However if You want to access these public folders via SAMBA from Windows (I have XP SP2) then You have to create at least one user on the N5200 - but then You are able to access these folders without username and password. Anyway I prefer to work with non public folders and give different rights - thats more or less a protection for myself and my family which has also access to the folders against deleting something by accident.
