after upgrading the firmware to 1.00.04 (which was really worth it, because the reboots every about 20 hours are not happening anymore), I noticed that the SSH patch mentioned above is not working anymore.
So I took some time and figured out what needs to be done to enable SSH again. In my opinion, SSH access to the NAS device should always be possibe, so Thecus, think about it.
So I have packaged my patch script as a firmware upgrade and it works for me. I don't have any web space, so if someone want's to provide my firmware patch also for others, please indicate here, so I can send the package. The installation of the patch is easy: just install the patch with "Firmware Upgade". The upgrade consists only of running a shell script file written by me, so no new software is really installed (except the sshd exe file).
My patch will do the following: 1) A user sys with password sys is added 2) All filesystems on the NAS will be exported by NFS (just /etc/exports is modified) 3) The sshd executable from an earlier version gets installed 4) The sshd config file gets modified so the sys user is allowed to login 5) Start of the sshd deamon is enabled in /etc/inittab
