Hello, I use few days two
1 TB Samsung HD103UJ (32MB Cache)
in Raid 1 mode.
Everything works fine, the HDD's are really silent and the temperature isn't so high like my old two 320 GB Seagate HDD's.

I have two WD RE2-GP 1TB HDD. I'm running RAID 1 with firmware 2.01.09: Buffer Size 16 MB Buffer To Host (Serial ATA) 3 Gb/s (Max) Transfer Rate (Buffer To Disk) 84 MB/s (Sustained) Runs pretty cool and silent.

Well it seems that I am not having such good luck with the Seagate 750 drives, I see other can make them work but I can't.
2 brand new Seagate 750GB ST3750640AS with my new N2100. I tried one drive, then both and nothing. I upgraded the firmware to the latest ( 2.01.09) and again I tried one drive, then both and nothing. It seems that the drives don't spin up, but I know the drives work I hooked them up to my computer via external USB.
What up with this?

What up with this? after plugging in and having no access to drives log inte web interface and do a reboot from there. then they should spin up properly you should be able to have access to your drives. I think the problem that they spin up properly in the first place but not fast enough to be detected by firmware. what is the SSH command to reboot like there is one described for shutdown in one thread?

Can anyone with a pair of terabyte drives in their 2100 provide an update as to whether they're still working okay? I've got a couple 500 giggers in mine and would like to upgrade, but don't want to suffer data or power supply problems.
I've been thinking about either the Samsung HD103UJ or the Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS. The Samsung draws 8.4 watts during read/write and 2.4 at spinup. The WD drive draws 5.4 watts during read/write, and 1.7 peak (I assume that's spin-up).

I upgraded to the HD103UJ (2x1tb mirrored) about 3 months ago and has been running without issue, and a little cooler. Cheers.

I just checked and Thecus has not updated their hard disk compatibility list for the N2100 since 11/2008 and there is nothing on the list larger than 500 gigs. I'm ready to upgrade (2 500 gig drives now, raid 1) and my understanding is that large drives aren't so much a problem due to the capacity, but the draw on the small power supply.
Which would suggest the new "green" drives might be the ticket, except somewhere in the back of my mind I recall hearing that these drives are not recommended for NAS use. Something relating to the energy savings algorithm spinning the drives down, and then not powering back up quick enough, causing the NAS firmware to believe the drive is dead.
Amazon has new Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD10EARS drives for 60 bucks. The earlier EADS drive is 10 bucks more, and has half the cache.
I want to upgrade to this drive, but would like some comments from any of you guys who have been down this road before me. Is this a good idea? Bad idea? Comments as to why either way?
Thanks!! -Don

I am also interested to know. I have 2 x Hitachi Deskstar 7K500's (500 GB) which I have been running in Raid 1 for years. If it were not for the fact that I am running out of disk space I would keep them.
I notice that the Western Digital Caviar 1.5TB SATAII 64MB Cache 3.5-inch Green Internal Hard Drive is going for £58 while the 2TB model is going for £75. These are very tempting prices, but will my old N2100 be able to cope with them?

Sorry, I don't know why but i switched to German in my previous post. I tried and switched to a RAID 1 of 2 2 TB Samsung HD203WI F3. They run cool (38 ° C after a FanMod, cooler than my previous 400 GB Seagates) and without any problem up to now. Thecus will most probably not update the spec sheets. So I would stick to a drive someone else has already tried. I've chosen above drives for their little energy consumption.... I did not try a HDD with a different format, like the Samsung F4 with different blocksizes - and thats also why I stuck with 2 TBs. Good luck - and keep us updated!
