I have some pre-sale questions about the N2100:
1) What file system is being used?
2) Can you protect the N2100 with an APC UPS (via USB cable)?
3) What are the modules you can upload? The firmware v2.0.05 features state: >> 2. Re-designed module upload interface.
4) What is the fan size? and can it be replaced with a quieter one?
5) What is the watt rating for the power supply?
6) Does the ethernet support jumbo frames? (what size 4K? 9K?)
7) Is this a hardware or software raid solution?

1) What file system is being used? ext3 2) Can you protect the N2100 with an APC UPS (via USB cable)? Never tried 3) What are the modules you can upload? The firmware v2.0.05 features state: >> 2. Re-designed module upload interface. BT, Blog 4) What is the fan size? and can it be replaced with a quieter one? 4cm? never tried 5) What is the watt rating for the power supply? 12V, 5A; so it should be 60Watt 6) Does the ethernet support jumbo frames? I'm having problems with the gigabit feature. I have connected a Zyxel 5 port Gbit switch to my router and connected the N2100 my laptop and desktop pc's to the switch. The transfer speed between the pc's are blazing fast. The transfer speed between the N2100 and the pc's however is as slow as ever before (100 Mbps). Ehat do I need to do to enbale the Gigabit feature.

If Windows tells you the network is working in gigabit, then it should be Gigabit. By the way, are you using Cat 5e or Cat 6 network wire?

The Thecus transfer limit is about 7-12 megabytes/second and is thought to be due to the CPU processing power. I don't think this would saturate a 100mb network (which I think is equivalent to about 15 megabytes/second) and explains why you would not get any speed increasing going to a gigabit network. Performance details here: ktula.com/

12MB/sec is about the peak sustained transfer rate for a hard disk, anyway.
You can certainly protect an NS2100 with a UPS but there appears to be no provision for the UPS notifying the box to shut down.

I am having all sorts of odd problems with a new n2100 running the lastest firmware. Is there a way to 'factory reset' the device, so I can start over ?

You can bring the N2100 back to factory default state by going to System > Factory Default page, and click on the Apply button.
Or you can back up your data, and recreate your RAID. (Note : when removing your RAID, all data on it will also be removed.)

One of the problems I was having was that I was not able to login to the admin account, so could not factory reset from there. Have since been able to run a brower from another machine and that is fine, but the machine I am typing the message on still cannot login to the admin account - I get Authentication error: Invalid Password
Most odd ! Could it be a browser issue ??

You can certainly protect an NS2100 with a UPS but there appears to be no provision for the UPS notifying the box to shut down. The N2100 has SATA connections for hard drives, the transfer rate for SATA is about 150 mega-BYTES / second en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sata It is NOT the hard drives (even in RAID 1) that is limiting the transfer speed. You can use the USB port to provide communications between the N2100 and the UPS. I have a KuroBox www.kurobox.com which is similar to the n2100 [without the RAID], working this way. I use a APC Smart-Ups 350 connected to the Kuro via USB and the apcupsd software www.apcupsd.com/ to monitor the UPS status. To get this running on the N2100 you would need telnet access as root to install the apcupsd software.

Don't you have to cross compile to generate the correct binary for the N2100 platform?

Don't you have to cross compile to generate the correct binary for the N2100 platform? And a telnet port available...

Slightly out of sequence here .. my problem logging in as admin on a browser -- this does NOT work for me if I use the netbios name, but DOES work if I use the IP address. Don't know why !
