I'm new all to these hacking of N2100, so I start with some questions: - does anybody now anything about the new Allnet fw? - is it really, that allnet's fw doesn't have module support? - what if I download the new Allnet fw, decrypt it (onbeat.dk ), change the fw to a lower, so I can hack it later to an Thecus? - Thecus's latest fw is really 2.1.05? - is there any main major diff between Thecus and Allnet fw, not mentioning the module support? - will any fw update harm the data on the HDDs? Thanks in advance!

However thecus' latest firmware is 2.1.06. This thread will tell you how to convert it. Firmware updates shouldn't damage your data. However some people have lost configuration. Why is not known and doesn't make sense. The percentages would be extremely low though.

Said yes, everything went ok, but when I rebooted, it said that it's FW 2.1.08.2!!! How can this be? (I've changed upgrade/version before update)

So probably now I can't downgrade to Thecus 2.1.06...
What does /etc/version hold? Just the current version number?

Before I flash to the orig Thechus fw, I wanted to try the allnet's newest. So, if I make a small version upgrade like yours, changeing the manifest.txt and /etc/version (to 2.1.05 let's say), than I'll be able to flash to the Thecus fw, right?

That's an interesting proposition although possibly not intended. The conversion upgrade only changes the manifest.txt I should try and alter it to change the version number too. I'll get back to you on that...

I've update the wiki onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N2100_ALLNET_to_ThecusI've created a new version of the converter. It changes the manifest.txt as before but this time it also changes the version number to 2.1.02 To make things sound confusing I bumped up the version number of the converter to be 2.1.09 thus allowing it to work with allnet version 2.1.08 I've also been thinking that creating a root share as described in onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N2100_WEBGUI_Fails_after_firmware_updatewill allow allnet owners to edit the manifest.txt and version number themselves. No need for converters. Edit: The new converter will also allow thecus owners to downgrade the thecus firmware to a previous version (Note: this may not necessarily be a desirable thing to do)

Succesfully flashed to Thecus 2.1.06 from Allnet 2.1.08.2. Thanks.
