My Thecus N3200 started to emit a high pitched beep just after a power outage and showed the message RAID: Degraded. I logged into the unit and saw that one of these disks shows "Warning" in the RAID configuration panel. Unfortunately I had also just noticed that the disk was extremely full.
The NAS was purchased in September 2008. The specification is Serial ATA-300 - RAID 5. It has 3 Hitachi HDS72101 disks of c 1tb each.
I am not familiar with the workings of RAID arrays. Can I assume that I can just replace the hard disk and hope that all will be OK after the rebuild?
Also should I purchase a larger HD than was there before ? If I can manage to restore the unit, I would then like to expand the storage.
The unit has an early version of the firmware (ver 1.00.03). should I upgrade this before trying to replace the hard disk ?
I would be most grateful for any advice. Everything (mostly images) is on there and I don't want to take any risks.
Many thanks in advance
