We purchased the 8900v to backup a critical server (S12) in our environment with 9Tb of data on it (mostly small files < 1k). Pre-req: (1) I want to have the 8900v and S12 be the only systems involved in the backup to the 8900v. This will give our copy optimal performance. (2) S12 is a heavily burdened system. I don't want to consume more memory/cpu running a copy from S12 to the 8900v. Ideal Execution: (1) Mount share from S12 on the 8900v (2) Execute copy via the shell (using rsync) directly on the Thecus. Problem: I cannot mount smbfs or cifs filesystems on the8900v. When I try to execute "insmod cifs" or "insmod smbfs" - I find that those modules are not on the machine. I did find this post: thecususergroup.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=4096&page=1#18495 I tried installing the files referenced - but those don't work on the 8900v (x64 vs x86 I think). Help?
