The N2200Plus shares some features with the original N2200 although there are some differences. The only obvious physical difference is on the back of the unit where the N2200Plus looses two USB ports and gains an additional ethernet port compared to the N2200. There is an extra network icon on on the front display panel for the additional network connection.
Internally the most notable difference is the more powerful 600MHz ARM based processor in the N2200Plus although the HDD mounting trays have also been modified. It looks as though the N2200Plus trays allow better airflow to the disks. Memory configuration remains the same at 256MB.
For some reason the USB copy copy feature only works on the rear USB port on the N2200Plus, while its the front port on the N2200. Note that there is only one USB port on the rear of the N2200Plus. I would have thought that this would be the port to attach USB disks for additional storage. The N2200Plus only unique feature not available on the N2200 is you may specify the space allocated for Target USB volumes. However, as there are only two USB ports on the N2200Plus (one on the front and one on the rear) and the rear port would have to be available should you want to do any USB copying, any USB disk would need to be connected to the single front port.
Once you login to the N2200Plus you start to see other differences. The Menu bar (icons on the bottom left) on each page is missing the UPS icon as the UPS setting is not supported on the N2200Plus. There are icons for temperature and network on the Menu bar but these don't work. They remain grey and clicking on them does nothing. They are supposed to be colour coded with green for normal and red for errors with hyperlinks to take you to the appropriate information page. Perhaps someone coule confirm that these work on the N2200?
Having looked through the documentation the following N2200 features are not supported on the N2200Plus:
UPS setting
Scheduling power on & power off
TFTP server.
Auto module installation
Given the number of features which are either not available or just don't work on the N2200Plus perhaps it should be called a N2200Minus?
The only redeeming feature of the N2200Plus is that the network services work and throughput is very good. Some things could be added or fixed with a future firmware upgrade, but we will have to see what Thecus provide.
