I want to run a WinXP session on the Thecus and have chosen VirtualBox 2.x series for it (seemed like compatible with the kernel on the NAS). Installing it requires compilation of a kernel module and inserting the module to the running kernel. I got the compilation done on an OpenSUSE 10.0 base system (to later transfer to the NAS). However, what I cannot do is for the kernel module to be loaded (using insmod) as it gives some kernel magic or compatibility error. Trying the same using modprobe seems to be problematic, since I don't know how to get it to load a module *outside* of the typical /lib/modules/ directory, which happens to be on a RO filesystem. Any ideas on how to either get VirtualBox to work on the NAS, or get the kernel module compilation/installation to work?

to be honest I'd ditch the thecus firmware and install another flavour of linux.

I have been thinking about it myself as well.
Was wondering if there is a distro with a good web UI that would perform RAID and network share management.

Well good web UI just use www.webmin.com/and about the rest, you could get one of the latest versions of linux and that will support RAID as wel as network share management. Im using Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS. WHy? because its widely supported.
