As instructed in the (old) User Manual I contacted Thecus Sales. Eventually, after some following up, the Thecus Sales Territory Manager answered that from May onwards this wireless function is not supported anymore.
From searching around I conclude that it is not straight forward to get a driver for Linux. Is there anybody who can provide instructions for selecting a USB 802.11n adapter for the N2200, loading the driver, and configuring its wireless settings?
Thank you very much in advance.

Thecus KnowledgebaseUSB DONGLE Thecus supports the following tested 802.11 b/g USB wireless dongles in AP mode. And it has to be installed before NAS booting up, no PnP. N0204 / N2200 / N3200 / N3200PRO / M3800 / N4100+ / N4100PRO / N5200 / N5200PRO / 1U4500 / N7700 series / N8800 series [ZyDAS ZD1211] 1. 3Com 3CRUSB10075 WL-545 (Manufacture ID: 6891, Device ID: A727) 2. Zyxel ZyAIR G-220 (Manufacture ID: 0586, Device ID: 3401) 3. PCI GW-US54mini (Manufacture ID: 14EA, Device ID: AB13) [ZyDAS ZD1211B] 1. Zyxel ZyAIR G-220 V2 (Manufacture ID: 0586, Device ID: 340F) N199 / N299 / N1200 / N2100 [ZyDAS ZD1211] 1. 3Com 3CRUSB10075 WL-545 (Manufacture ID: 6891, Device ID: A727) 2. Zyxel ZyAIR G-220 (Manufacture ID: 0586, Device ID: 3401) 3. PCI GW-US54mini (Manufacture ID: 14EA, Device ID: AB13) [ZyDAS ZD1211B] 1. Zyxel ZyAIR G-220 V2 (Manufacture ID: 0586, Device ID: 340F) 2. TP-LINK TL-WN322G+ (Manufacture ID: 0ACE, Device ID:1215) Above USB dongle base on ZD1211/ZD1211b, which means following link model should supported : www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/zd1211rw/devices , but Thecus would recommend choose the WEB camera form tested. (hlan: I think they wanted to write "one of the tested USB 802.11 adapters that are listed above)
I abandoned my search for an USB 802.11n adapter. The Linux kernel version required is 2.6.31 from which there is a chance for the related driver to be included - my N2200 runs 2.6.24 (ROOTCMD uname -a). For an afterthought: I think that I should have considered a HomePlug Powerline adapter anyway for storing the N2200 away in a closet.
