when I listen to mp3 music form my N0204 by using any kind of DLNA capable media player (i.e Winamp with on2share plug in or Sony's PS3) I see most of the ID tag data of the song, but the album pictures is lost (of course it still remains on he file but it is not transferred). Is it a matter of the media server of the N0204? Can it be modified or updated with another one?

Hi, I generally use FTP for everything, including playing movies from the NAS.
Now that we have access to change things on the NAS, there is the possibility of either fixing the media server, or putting another one on. There would be some work around this...
Fixing the media server: can either browse the files as installed using ROOTCMD or DROPBEAR. Another option is to examine the source code for the firmware, is available from the Thecus site, look for the really big file called GPL something.
Using a different media server: this has been done for other models of NAS, we could something similar, the difficult part is getting hold of the correct binaries, or compiling them.
I'm more in favour of replacing the entire firmware, especially to fix a bug in the drivers that can toast the raid when under load - this has me worried, although I don't know if N0204 or N2200 is affected.
Either way, something fun to work on in holidays, if and when I get some!
Good luck!

There would be some work around this... you're a tough one! well, let me know about your proceedings... you seem to know how I can access to the installations and modules - can you let me know how? sounds interesting. especially to replace the media server (how? which one could do the job?). i like the possibility to modify the firmware.

Both N2200 and N0204 use similar firmware, so can use the same modules, binaries, etc. They probably have compatible CPU and other hardware. I bought a N2200 myself. It sounds like you are asking how to access the modules? The official modules are on the Thecus web site: www.thecus.com/, choose Product > N0204 > Module, there are four to choose from (I dont know why the N2200 ipcam module is more up to date!). Instructions to install a module are in the user guide (also downloadable). The user contributed ones are (so far as I know) on this site: thecus.nas-central.org/wiki/Category:N2200Use a similar method to the official one to install them. Basically DROPBEAR and ROOTCMD are used to access the linux commands on the NAS. This way you have complete control and you can laugh crazily while you delete everything... I mean look at everything. Its also worth checking the older posts in this forum and other forums for a few hints.
