Hey Guys! I'm using the 1U4500 to backup my esxi files. The box is mounted as NFS to the server and a script copies the virtual machine files every night. One of the files has about 180gb. When I try to delete this file over SSH from my esxi i get an error saying:
/vmfs/volumes/53c0fc6a-1faadcbd/backups/svr001 # rm -r svr001-2010-02-19--4/ rm: cannot remove 'svr001-2010-02-19--4/svr001-flat.vmdk': Input/output error rm: cannot stat 'svr001-2010-02-19--4/svr001.vmx': Input/output error rm: cannot stat 'svr001-2010-02-19--4/svr001.vmdk': Input/output error rm: cannot remove 'svr001-2010-02-19--4': Input/output error ash: getcwd: Input/output error (unknown) # This blocks my backup script. So, is there a problem with files from the esxi? Should I use iSCSI instead of NFS? I'm using NFS because i want to implement a second backup site to another location using the nsync from thecus. I have not played with that function yet and i don't know if it works when i use the NAS as an iSCSI target.

I have another Problem with browsing the NFS from another machine. I can't see the *.vmdk files with my windows system connected to the nfs share. I only see the *.vmx files. Maybe someone has a solution for that?

Hi, i have same issue with ESXi 4.0 on 2 DELL D2119. My backup with VMExplorer fails (transfer rate il 1-2 Mb/s, too slow). In ssh i can't delete large file because it show me errors input/output. Anyone can help us to solve this problem? Thanks Bye Matteo noel: to show all files, you can enter in your storage directory from ssh, and type chmod 777 -R *. So all your file are visible in Windows.

I solved the problem temporary by enabling the 2gbsparse option in the backup script. The smaller files can be deleted without any errors but it takes several hours. So, what can I do to speedup read, write, copy and delete actions on the NAS?
