Hello all,
My N5200BR PRO has been running more or less continuously since March 2008 with no problems, until yesterday. I had to power-off and restart the box to install a new power strip, but when I attempted a restart the unit was unresponsive. I've tried letting the unit sit unplugged for several minutes, no difference, it won't respond to either the power supply switch in the back, or the power switch on the front of the unit. After several minutes of sitting with the power plugged-in the fans will start and several of the lights on the front of the panel will light-up, but no POST or power-on cycle is executed (apparently). The front LCD panel displays a row of solid white blocks (see attachment for a photo). I've attempted to flash the bios using the "2.00.16.bin" and "factory_test.sh" files, no effect, and there is no external feedback to indicate the unit is aware of the flash drive or files, nor attempting to execute a BIOS flash. I also attempted to use the USB connectors on both the front and back of the unit to flash the bios, no affect (I did this by inserting the flash drive and waiting for the unit to turn itself on as described above). I've attempted all bios flashing configurations I described above with both the drives installed and with the drives removed.
The BIOS version installed on the unit was 2.00.16, it was running a 4-drive RAID-5 configuration with multiple folders. The physical drives are all identical WD5000AAKS 500GB. The unit was plugged into a UPS (power cable) and a router (ethernet). The unit was confirmed to be working until moments before it was powered-off yesterday.
I have contacted Thecus support and exchanged emails with Alex Chang. He advised me to flash the bios as described above and to contact their distributor for an RMA if that failed. I did contact NewEgg, which is where I purchased the unit, but of course after 2 years even the mighty NewEgg can't do anything in this situation. I've updated my support ticket with the latest status and situation and am awaiting a response from Thecus.
In the meanwhile, does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone else faced this situation? I searched the forums but didn't find a similar story. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you might have.
Thanks!
