Hey,
I just wanted to post this for anyone who is new to sharing their media with an XBOX 360 using TWONKY. I was experiencing some very frustrating issues, but, after a couple of months, I've now got it working almost as nicely as samba shares.
For me, my Thecus is setup with the following shares:
Television: /raid/data/television
Film: /raid/data/film
Pictures: /raid/data/pictures
Music: /raid/data/music
Software: /raid/data/software
The issue I was having initially was that if I shared my folders individually, my TV and film would all appear in the same folder. If I shared my folders all as one (i.e. just shared the /raid/data folder) then I would get heaps of junk in my music share from the "software" folder.
If you've got your system setup similar to mine, you can overcome this problem by setting up your shares like this:
/raid/data --> Video only
/raid/data/pictures --> Pictures only
/raid/data/music --> Music only
The advantage of this is that you will also pick up any videos from your "pictures" or "music" shares, but you won't pick up random folders of pictures or music in the other shares. It's obvious really, and so I'm probably the only person in the world that this took months to work out.
The other BIG issue I was having was that the XBOX 360 doesn't show music in folders (like it does with video and pictures). Instead, it reads the metadata from the files themselves. My ID3 tags are pretty much immaculate, and so I was pretty confused as to why my MP3s appeared all over the place and with weird titles that definitely weren't caused by ID3 tags or folder structure.
The issue is that for some reason either the XBOX 360 or Twonky reads APE tags instead of ID3 tags. So, if you want your music to display properly, you need to re-tag all of your music using APE tags. A good program that does this is called Mp3tag which you can pick up from www.mp3tag.de/
Anyway, I hope this helps someone. Despite my best efforts I couldn't find any information on this online and so have just worked this out through trial-and-error.
If anyone works out how to make Last.FM scrobble through Twonky over the XBOX 360, please, please send me a PM.
All the best.
