I was running my N0204 (fw 1.xx) since 4 month without any basic complaints. Ok, the ref.1 management GUI was not really sophisticated. However I followed the recommendation and ran the firmware upgrade to 3.00.07F. - The update procedure went well with a success message at the end. System reboot, logIn: LogIn Page corrupted - no log in possible - Finally I have lost control of my MiniNas. Since then, nobody was able to help (no support? Therefore, I bought a second one (yesterday) and inserted my RAID drives. Happiness, the system came up with ref. 3.00.07F on the first run. I configured the system and closed this issue - Next morning I tried to logIn again and the same corrupted logIn page appeared again (on the new N0204 with drives that run a day before).
Q: Has anybody made similar experiences? The main question seems to be: How can the system set to factory defaults without a web access? There is obviously no or a very hidden option to do it.
Finally I have 2 systems with the same problem - may be the firmware was corrupted or buggy?
How to reset the MiniNAS N0204 to factory defaults (this solved the problem of my corrupted LogIn pages):
1) download the ZIP archive from Thecus server (link above) 2) unzip and copy these files to an empty(!) USB stick to the root - keep the folder structure as it is in the ZIP. 3) turn off the N0204 4) remove hard disks 5) insert USB stick into the front(!) USB slot 6) power up the N0204 and wait for ~70sec for complete bootup (you may ping to check) 7) power down and insert the HDD - keep the USB stick still inserted(!) 8) power up again and remove the stick after ~120sec.
The N0204 is now reset to factory defaults, this includes DHCP is enabled. The N0204 may come with a different IP if a DHCP server is reachable. If not, it will switch back to fixed IP: 192.168.1.100 after ~ 60sec. You need to scan the the N0204 with the Smart Utility in order to identify a DHCP assigned IP address. When the utility has detected the the N0204 you need to run the full setup again - this will not destroy your server content.
Please make sure that you have downloaded the most recent firmware (3.00.07F). I have successfully performed the reset with both, FW 3.00.07E and 3.00.07F (remember, you need to copy the firmware to the Smart Utility Folder and you need to rename it to: firmware_N0204 - no suffix).
The Smart Utility will detect your NAS, will run the full procedure and the system should come up with a working login page (default passw.: admin).
Finally you need to configure the entire system again (ACL, Accounts, system etc).
Please note: I assume that the corrupted login page was caused by disabling the HTTPS service - this is neither officially verified nor confirmed yet - I recomment to keep it enabled as the default has configured it to.
No mine still not working. Unfortunately I havent seen these hints before. Guess I messed my 0204 up. The usb copy led is allways blinking green. this seems not normal. I assume the basic fw is already corrupt. Any idea here? I mean is there a jumper or can I flash the device with an usb blaster. have seen there is a jack on the little motherboard...
any hint is appreciated. as my dealer said sending the unit back for repair is about 2 months waiting time
