Has anyone replaced the noisy fan in their n299?
I bought and fitted a really quiet fan, which seemed to work for 5 mins then the n299 emitted a long beep and wrote an entry in the log saying "The system fan has failed", even though the fan was still working.
Interestingly, the admin web interface indicates that the fan speed is 0 even though it is working.
I have two Samsung 1TB disks, which seem to get rather warm, so I was wondering whether it's a heat issue?
Any ideas / suggestions / similar experiences anyone?
Thanks
Phil

Thanks Phil I've since realised that the fan I bought has only two pins, i.e. does not have a third pin for the fan sensor, hence the n299 not detecting the fan rpm. I have another fan on order which has 3pins including a fan sensor (http://www.akasa.co.uk/akasa_english/spec_page/fans/spec_dfs401012m.htm) which will hopefully do the job.
