By the way, I should add a word of warning about 2.1.10.17. When I tried to format my 5xwd15eads in xfs, it froze towards the end of the (long!) operation. I thought it was related to xfs, so I formatted using ext3 and it was fine for a week or so, except that I noticed that the n5200 seemed to sometimes disappear from the network map. Yesterday, the NAS was frozen again and all shares disconnected after a long copy operation, so I've downgraded to 2.0.0.14 which has always been rock solid for me (can't install more recent until they fix the version of Samba from 2.0.0.15 which is incompatible with offline files). As far as I know, samba has not been updated in 2.0.0.16 or 2.0.0.18. Manni, I have exactly the same disks and am running 2.1.10.17. I upgraded to this firmware after upgrading to these drives since with the previous "stable" release my write speeds dropped alarmingly. Happy to say in my case, so far no issues.

What is the groups assessment of the best of breed in the 2.01 firmware versions?
In my environment I am using SMB, Nsync no Mac clients. On a home giga network with open access to the Thecus, no quotas, No Active Directory use.....

i am now away, back after the weekend, but my N5200Pro is rebuilding Ext3 on .17, let's see if that sorts out the speed issues
if not, it's back to .16 for me.

Up with 2.10.1.17 with XFS and 5x Samsung F2 1.5TB after a factory default everything now works as it should (transfer of around 38Mbit) so i am extremely happy

Good to hear. Which RAID-types are you running? Well in my opinion the latest (no more) available firmware 2.10.1.17 is the most nicest one with full options for the N5200 pro. Will keep it running with this until it dies

Good to hear. Which RAID-types are you running? Running raid 5 on 5 disks (no spare) only seems that eSATA is broken? my eSATA disk is no longer recognized?

rookie: I just saw that you are using Samsung's HD501LJ like I am. I am still running FW 2.00.10 since there were so many warnings from Thecus about 2.01.xx Releases with regard to the Samsung and some other drives: "!!! WARNING !!! For the NAS with the following WD or Samsung HDD, DO NOT APPLY Firmware 2.01.09 and beta 2.01.10.x. There have been some cases reporting this firmware may cause below HDD degraded or even RAID N/A. - WD5001ABYS-01YNA - WD10EACS - WD RE2-GP WD1000FYPS - Samsung HD103UJ 1AA0 - Samsun HD753LJ - SAMSUNG HD501LJ " Is your system running without any problems? What do you think is the safest and most stable FW in connection with Samsung HD501LJ drives? ( I am using a 5200 Non-Pro, if that is of any matter)? Thanks for your (or other's) opinion! Best regards Phaedrus

I am running an n5200 (non-pro) with 5 samsung HD154ui drives (1.5 tb each). I built the raid from scratch on 2.00.16 which I'm still running. Any reason to believe I should avoid 2.01.* ?? I'm assuming I'd go to the latest which looks like might be 2.01.17 I'm now looking on thecus.com and they have 2.00.18.4 so it looks like they've possibly abandoned the 2.01 branch altogether for N5200 and instead continued down the 2.00 branch with the Samba fixes, Gmail TLS support, etc.

@ dconway:
In your signature you mention that you are using 2.00.18.5
Where did you get Version... .5? Did you have any problems or is it running fine?
Best regards Phaedrus

FYI, I just got brave and upgraded my N5200b to the version 3 firmware from the link referred to in the above post. All seems great! I was coming from 2.00.04. I have 5 SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB drives in RAID 5. No problems whatsoever during the upgrade process and now accessing the NAS is much faster. I also like the new interface.
