mediatomb.ccmediatomb.cc/pages/devicesMediatomb may be a nice transcoding alternative to twonky. It also claims to have a Thecus 4100+ module already (although it's not listed on the 4100+ wiki). Is porting this 4100+ module to the 5200[pro] trivial?

Hi Guys, its realy easy to do it without a module and You need in any way ssh access to configure the whole thing. Download the i386 static binary ( downloads.sourceforge.net/mediatomb/mediatomb-static-0.11.0-r2-linux-uclibc-i386.tar.gz), follow the installation instructions - thats just unpacking it and then run the startup script from the console. Mediatomb tends to bind on the first lan interface and can also only bind to only one, so You should edit the startup script with Your correct ip adress, or edit the xml configuration file before startuing it. The functionality at the moment is not very impressing, but I've tested it with divx and xvid avis and with mp3 audio files. br Peter

Peter, what about automatic startup (and shutdown) when the 5200 is started/shutdown? Doesn't the module infrastructure set this up properly?
Are you recommending we do this manually some other way?

Building a module would not be so hard, but my personal opinion is, that the media server is more or less in beta version, so a manual installation should be fine in the beginning. As drewy has already written, with the help of the META module a automaitc start/stop on reboot/shutdown can easily be implemented. br Peter

Everyone keeps saying that building a module would be easy but no one has done if and after 3 days, I can't seem to figure it out... Ah well, back to the manual install. hehehe

Hello, little help requested?!?!
I am trying to set up Mediatomb to use the MYSQL 5 I installed from the module available over at the 5200 module list.
I can't seem to get this to work, has anyone else, if yes can someone do a step-by-step on how to set this up?
Thanks!

take a look at the META mod Hey Drewy, I'm interested a little in trying to create some modules so above and beyond using the META Mod to help in creating one, do you have recommendations on which Linux Platform is the easiest to use in creating them. I modestly familiar in using linux and my main desktop is Ubuntu however willing to use spare desktop to test with different flavor if recommended. Your feedback is appreciated. Nibbles

If You don't compile anything, then UBUNTU is fine - I use it for my modules all the time. For compilings I have also SUSE 10.x in a Virtual box running. br Peter

Just out of curiosity has anyone gotten this media server to work on a 5200(pro)?
Were you able to get it working on MySQL, the one available for this NAS?
Thanks!

If anyone did could you post the steps?
Did you use MySQL?
