I have a really annoying problem with my N2100.
I use it to store my MP3 collection. It is wired into my router (not wireless). My PC is connected to the same router.
It is not a network setup issue - I can browse My Network and the Thecus shows up. I can access the directories by mapping drives or directly with UNC paths.
It is not a permissions problem - my Thecus and PC use the same username/password.
Here's the problem:
When listening to the MP3s with Windows Media Player, songs will randomly stop playing in the middle and WMP will complain that it cannot find the file.
When listening to the MP3s through my Squeezebox (and Slimserver installed on the PC) the same thing happens - tracks will skip halfway through.
However, if I listen to the same tracks using Winamp or WinDVD then I never get the skipping - I assume these programs use better buffering.
I've changed network cables, changed ACL permissions, changed ports on the router but nothing seems to help.
The Thecus is running the latest (2.1.05) firmware.
Any ideas?

For windows media player change the buffering setting and try again.
It doesn't take much network activity at either end for an interruption to occur.
You're running gigabit I assume?

It doesn't seem like he is running Gigabit. One suggestion that I would say is adjust the buffer speed on windows media player and I dont think theres much for the wireless audio streamer For me it does the same too (I am running gigabit lan) Some of my Mp3 DJ Sets are about hundredths of megabyte long and sometimes it would just lagg or stop for no reasons. I am planning to either get another NAS or wait for that N299? or something in the next couple of months...I can't open a vid and audio file at the same time on N2100.. without it having a buffer underrun..laggg

Very strange.... i am just running the 100mbit lan, and i have no problem streaming music from itunes, or videos from a dedicated folder on the n2100.
I did try however to mount a dvd image from the n2100 using DAEMON tools, however that was a little slow! But i'll try again soon!

Thanks for the advice.
I'm not running gigabit (my thecus, switch and pc all have gigabit connections and they are hooked up with Cat6 cables, but for whatever reason my pc refuses to run at gigabit).
The wireless audio streamer is not the problem - it works fine when I play the mp3s from an external usb drive instead of the N2100 (everything else the same).
I'm pretty sure the problem is network related. However, let me know if I'm way off the mark (politely please!), but it seems that I have fewer problems when the N2100 is running cool. I live in Arkansas, US and it does get hot - with the Thecus often hitting 50 degrees.
Does anyone have any experience or know why a hot thecus is more unreliable? Or am I just imagining things?
I've got a 120mm fan and a couple of grills on order to keep the temperature down - at least it'll prolong the life of the discs if nothing else.

Do you use DHCP to assign an IP to your N2100? If yes, try with a fixed IP.

I have the same problem as the OP. It happens with both Windows XP and Mac machines (SMB and AFP protocols, iTunes server is off).
I have the latest firmware installed and running not too many modules.
I have a gigabit switch and tried various jumbo frames as well as turning them off.
I tried both DHCP and entering a fixed IP in the Thecus, with no luck.
Any ideas?
