This page on the Wiki sounds like my problem.... onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N2100_WEBGUI_Fails_after_firmware_updateBut I haven't done anything, I've never upgraded the firmware or installed a module! One day, my Web GUI stopped working. It just times out. I can connect via FTP, I can ping it, the Setup Wizard works as normal as does the server. I just have no web admin. Is the fix detailed above the solution to my problem, or will it make it worse? Can I just install the drive as a second HDD on my PC and modify smb.conf? I'm not entirely confident in my abilities for fixing the problem; I don't want to break it completely or loose data. I might just put up with it. SSH module is not installed.

As you've discovered, losing the webgui is not limited to firmware updates. The fix is the same though. You should follow the wiki instructions.

This might sound weird, but try accessing your web admin through https:// instead of http://. I keep losing the webinterface through http, but if I try the secure https-connection I can access it without much trouble.

That would suggest a process stalling or crashing...

Weirdly, even after a reboot there is no way for me to get into the config through http://... if I turn on UPNP I see the device in My Network, but clicking it opens the (non-working) http-address. If I replace http with https then there is absolutely no problem.
I have recently replaced both harddrives with new ones ánd firmware updated to 2.0.6, but the problem still persists. I don't really care as long as the https-connection works, but I agree it is strange.
Oh, by the way, the stock cooler doesn't do a proper job -- my upper hard drive was fried, that's why I replaced my raid. The drive was about half a year old, the black paint on it turned all bubbly due to overheating :-P

Edit: Also if you want your other issue fixed just install SSH and copy the apache config file httpd.conf to a share that you can access it and post it up.

Don't know why this suddenly changed (ages ago) but oddly enough the new mac I added to my network can connect just fine

I've had the exact same problem, one day my web login just disappeared. Turns out the process isn't even starting so it is easy to start when you login via ssh then issue this command:
/opt/apache/bin/apachectl -k start
i've still to track down where the start script is for me to change this. Hopefully this might help you in part.

I too experienced this same problem of no WEB GUI. Just prior to this issue I did install the new Google Chrome web browser. So I tried the Google chrome web browser and sure enough the WEB GUI appeared. I then tried Firefox and it too works. Internet explorer 7 does not work. I was almost ready to tear into the box until I read the MAC could pull up the WEB GUI.
Thanks for that small, but very useful information.
