I have the syslog daemon running on my N5200Pro and I am sending the messages to a remote syslog log server.
Every 20 minutes I get the following syslog message.
Source: N5200PRO Facility: Kernel Severity: Info Message: -- MARK --<\0x0A>
Any ideas what this message is? My belief is that it is a message indicating a kernel heartbeat.
Thanks, ifloydian

its just a syslog "marking" indicating that the syslog daemon is up and running. Ths can be switched off by passing "-m 0" to the syslog daemon.

Thanks Falk - But, I have enabled the syslog service via the following url. http: //YOURN5200//adm/getform.html?name=syslog
Is there a place that I can start the syslog daemon and pass these parameters automatically, like in a linux config file ?
Thanks, ifloydian

Can anyone, please, give me a bone as to were I can pass this "-m 0" parameter to the syslog daemon.
The webgui only has the ability to turn on and off the syslog and what IP to point messages to.
I have logged into sys shell and looked everywhere but can't find a thing that pertains to the syslog daemon.

The startup script is located at /img/bin/rc/rc.syslogd. Unfortunatly the files are read only.
What You can do is: - install the META module - copy the rc.syslogd script to the startup section of the module - modify it, so it waits for the running syslog daemeon and then restarts it with the new parameter

Whooo, not my cup of tea. Instead I will just run it from root after every reboot (as I dont have to reboot often, except for firmware updates). Or maybe I setup a script to SSH in and do it *automagically*.
For anyone in Busybox/Linux/N5200 hell, here's what I run from root. (BTW, I had to install the SYSUSER and SSHD modules first so I could SSH into the box) ------root commands------ killall klogd killall syslogd sleep 1 /opt/bin/syslogd -m 0 -f /<raid name>/sys/N5200_syslog.conf /opt/bin/klogd -c 4 echo "Syslogd work now" /img/bin/logevent/event 998 info syslog event_start -------end commands---------- Where <raid name> is replaced by your "raid name". Usually RAID0 or RAID or RAID5, may be something else in your case.
I hope this helps someone in the future.
Peterfu, thank you sooo very much for your valuable input, without your kindness I would be stuck with that stupid 20 min interval. ;D
