Hello all!
I am in the market for buying a few N5200 and am interested in a consolidated thread regarding the available 1TB drives and your experiences with the thecus equipment/software experience.
I have read a few scattered posts here/there within the forum and would like to have the information in 1 place for future users/reference.
*I have checked the HCL as of 8/11/08 but am interested in personal experiences*
Thank you in advance for your time and support.

I'm using the Samsung Spinpoint 1TB drives, which require one of the beta Firmwares. I'm currently using 2.00.11.2.
They work fine, and of course they are cheap cheap... :-)
Well, that's what the ID in raid stand for... Inexpensive Disks ;D

I use the Hitachi 1TB drives here. No need for the beta firmware, no issues to report.

Very nice - thanks for the info ..
question - how did you go about ordering the thecus?
from a specific website with the drives pre-configured or diskless version and order the drives from a separate retailer?

both, the first two i bought were both from zipzoomfly.com an N5200 with 5 - 500GB drives... 2 years ago? 3? last year an N5200PRO with 5 - 1TB drives
and then the second N5200PRO this year came from zipzoomfly.com while i purchased the 5 - 1TB drives from tigerdirect.com (i believe)
think the drives were on sale.... you can shop around and get deals definitely....

I just purchased the 5200BR Pro from Newegg and installed four 1TB Seagate Drives, per the drive list. I believe the 340NS drives.
No issues except I can't tell if the drives are spinning down for power saving (sleep) mode. I don't think they are spinning down at all and wish there was some LED indicator saying they are asleep. Would be nice.

To check if spin down really works just observe the start/stop count with the info module. Everytime a HDD spins down and up this count gets incremented by one.
