Hi, I have the 5200pro with 4x500Go disk in raid 10. I'm really happy with it. ;DBut I'll have to change it soon, and sell it, if I cannot protege my files in a special way. Let me explain. I use my 5200 as a map network drive to install my software. And all my PCs (I have 40 PC) connect to it. I have only two choices for the ACL : READ or WRITABLE. But I'd like a 3rd one ! I need a WRITABLE mode that don't allow ERASE. It is ESSENTIAL for me. Most of the software I use (games) need to create files or modifie them. And if I give the right WRITABLE, if my custumers find the path to my NAS, they can erase everything easely ! If I use READ, most of the sofware don't work... Until now, the ACL was in WRITABLE mode. But It's to dangerous... So that my question : Do you think you could work on thy way, And make a new firmware, soon? If not, I'll have to go back to my windows 2k server, witch allows it.

I'll have to go back to my windows 2k server
... Why don't you use your Windows server as AD and authenticate with it ? You will have more security options. Ed.

I could be wrong, but I don't think such a thing exists in Linux (which is what the Thecus is running), or any other Unix variant that I'm aware of. Write permission is the same thing as delete permission on Unix based systems.
Even without delete, if they have write permission they can just write blanks or nulls to the file and effectively erase it anyway. The file will still technically exist, but there will be nothing in it.

Somebody of Thecus email me this : "we are planning to modify the ACL list, but we cannot say when it will be ready. We hope, we will have it soon. " If it's not possible I'll have to take back my server PC with windows 2000

Hi,
Silly question : Did you try creating several shares ?
If you users have access to theirs they cannot delete any file from the other users...
Perhaps you need to give more info or re-explain the problem.
