I was in the process of changing the role of this N5200 (change RAID level, wipe the data), so I decided to update the firmware. It had, I believe, 1.00.07, so I attempted to upgrade to 2.00.08. At first, it looked like it was working, but partway through the 'upgrade failed' screen came up, and numerous retries didn't work.
I restarted it, and the network didn't come up, so when I went to look at it, it appeared to be stuck at the "self testing" screen. I pressed the reset button, after which it appeared to boot completely (shows 2.00.08, assembles RAID, etc.) but neither network interface appears to work anymore. I tried both the settings I originally put, as well as the default IPs per the manual. Link lights come up, but no ping, and the Setup Wizard can't find it, whether it's connected through a switch or a crossover cable directly to a PC.
I've attempted to do a USB reflash, but I've tried a few different flash sticks and it just boots 'normally.'
It's over a year old, so it's out of warranty. Is this salvageable, or do I go out and get a Synology? (I have one at home and it never had firmware upgrade issues)

It's probably been power-cycled 30+ times so far in the process of trying to get it working again. I read that thread but aside from alluding to pulling the internal flash out (yes, I disassembled it, and see the flash on the daughterboard attached by what looks like a 44pin notebook IDE header), I don't see anything about what you're supposed to do once you've plugged that into another PC.
Since I really haven't found a clear answer, another thing I was going to try was to use the USB method, but with a 1.x firmware image, instead of the latest 2.x I had been trying with, since most of the references around here to this method were with the older versions.

The same has happend to me. The NIC are not responding, and at the moment I have an expensive paperweight.
I upgraded my N5200 from 2.00.04 to 2.00.08 and then it stopped working. The upgrade was looking fine, but after a restart there seemed to be something wrong with the web interface (all the images were missing), and after another restart it seems that the config has disappeared and a factory default has been loaded. The status display informs me that RAID = None, and WAN = N/A.
The RAID I hope I can rebuild with a saved config, but with the WAN = N/A I am not able to log on to the device.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
