To check if spin down really works just observe the start/stop count with the info module. Everytime a HDD spins down and up this count gets incremented by one. Are you sure that works? I'm not disagreeing with you, but I would have assumed the start/stop count in the SMART info would record power down, not just spin down. Is it something that varies in implementation between the drive manufacturers, or is there something that says the start/stop count is always incremented with a spin down? I don't know a lot about it, but one thing I keep reading is that the SMART attributes are drive/manufacturer specific.

Never mind. Now that I pay more attention, there's a Start/Stop count as well as a seperate entry for Power Cycle count. I guess it should have been obvious.

Hi,
I'd like to report a small bug in the web interface. When connected using hostname (https://mythecusnas), the system page will enforce connection back to host IP (https://192.168.1.1) thus requiring to accept a certificate change.
In web page /img/htdocs/adm/system.html (at the end of the file), replace : location.href="<?=$protocol?>://<?=$host.":".$port?>/adm/getform.html=?name=system"
with: location.href="/adm/getform.html=?name=system"

There are a lot of php errors in the Web GUI. If you change the parameters in php.ini to allow php to report error messages, you get a lot of error messages after calling the web gui. Firmware: 2.00.08.

Details have been added to the Wiki: onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N5200_Firmware_2.00.08_Issues/Falk

Upgraded to 2.00.08 and disk spin down now works.
I'd like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to Thecus. I've had my n5200 since Dec 2006 and it's only taken them a mere 18 months to get disk spin down working. Great job guys! I look forward to all the exciting fixes we may get over the next 18 months and beyond.
I predict the n5200 will be a VERY stable product easily by the year 2045.

perhaps you should try billing them for all that excess power that you've used over the past 18 months
