hi there
have N3200 using 2 TB RAID 5 Firmware 1.00.
Media Server turned on, service folders used for appropriate data. Strange behavior of the PS 3:
ps3 shows Metabolic Media Server, tries to get the folders but then errors with DLNA2101 error. I have never seen any file, only subfolders on the N3200. I have no music file directly in the music service folder, all my music is within subfolders.
I restarted the PS3 to rescan. It would find the N3200 but never succeeds in finding music. Currently, the PS3 even no longer finds the N3200 as a music server. However, it found my azureus torrent client running on a server - surprised that azures is also a media server ... anyway, using azureus, the ps3 can stream music.
anyone to have a ps3 streaming music from the N3200?
does the DNLA media server really work on the N3200?
I'd find it very useful having the N3200 serving as a media server to my ps3.
thanks for hints, clues, whatever

Never mind. Seems to be a problem with the latest PS3 Firmware. Other users also began seeing problems using the latest 2.10 firmware. I cannot confirm this, cause I've just bought the PS3 some days ago.

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 ... mostly as a blue ray player, and bridge between the N3200 and TV. Even with the current challenges, would you still recommend it?
From what I have seen, this is still the most flexible configuration around.

So I have been playing around with a playstation (pardon the pun) and with firmware 2.17 it seems to see the mediabolic media server running on the N3200.
So far I have been able to get it playback MPEG, and MOV formats but haven't had any luck with XVids
The PS3 just shows "Unsupported Data" when I search through the various folders where the videos are stored.
Not sure if this is a media server issue, or the PS3 but according to other threads I have read, the PS3 is now supporting Xvids.
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with a N5200. The problem is the media server as I've downloaded Twonky now and everything works fine.

Unbelievable! I was blown away by this media server! Right out of the box it serves up all my DivX and XVid videos, pictures, and music (Including iTunes!) I had previously tried Nero but, it was kind of slow and didn't want to scan networked drives. So far I can't find anything that Twonkey can't handle! So why couldn't Thecus partner with these guys! Sighhh I had the same problem with a N5200. The problem is the media server as I've downloaded Twonky now and everything works fine.

I am having the same issue with my setup - after much pain I got finally got the PS3 to 'see' the N3200 - but it is saying unsupported file type for video files that happily play when my pc is the server.
Most annoying.
I believe if the N1200 twonky module can be installed our problems will be over.

THANK YOU guys I almosg gave up on that combination PS3 and N3200 ... thanks for the Twonky Mod. Now, everything works as I axpect it. I second the statement by slyttle .. thecus should either improve its own media server or kick it out. better is of course to team up with those twonky guys ... that'll be a real improment. thanks again me happy

OK. I am having real problems with the PS3 (latest firmware 2.41) seeing the N3200. My 3200 came with the newer firmware already installed (v1.00.01) but I was missing many of the menu options described in the user guide - "Network -> Media Server" being one of the missing ones. I downloaded the firmware from thecus.com and installed it, even though it was the same version. This added the missing menu options! Not a good start since there seems to be different functionality for the supposedly same firmware version... I was then still having problems getting the PS3 to scan successfully for the N3200. I have already enabled the "media server" option on the 3200 and the PS3. I could also see iTunes service and video files from my PC off the 3200 OK. I restarted PS3 and 3200 and could finally see the 3200 from the PS3. However it still seems to lose sight sometimes, but I have found that disabling/enabling the "media server" option on the PS3 makes it automatically pick up the 3200 again after 30s or so. Manually scanning using the PS3 does not work every time. The major problems I am having is that .m4a files i have FTPd to the 3200 are not showing up at all on the PS3. I have ripped the CDs myself using iTunes so they have no DRM. I installed the TwonkyMod and when browsing thought that on the PS3, I can now see the artist and albums OK, but the actual .m4a files are then showing up as "unsupported data" So do I need to buy a license for Twonky to make this work? I can use the in-built Twonky web UI to serve files OK to my PC. Secondly, I am having similar problems playing XviD and .mkv on the PS3 through Twonky. I think I am correct that the PS3 will not play Xvid or .mkv files, as they were just showing up as "unsupported data". But even with Twonky installed, and browsing though the TwonkyMedia server they just show up as "unsupported data" still. Photos work just fine Oh and the PS3 is a bit annoying as you can browse to music files under the video menu or photos under the music menu etc... Make sure you are always looking for the correct media type otherwise the PS3 will basically say "There are no tracks". That tripped me up initially. Hope someone out there can help! cheers
