I have forgotten to tell you: before I made any changes to the file passwd I had made a copy of it and so its no problem to use the "old" original passwd file again. I have just renamed the "new" one to passwd-new and the "old" from passwd-original to passwd back again.
In PureFTP the setting ist still so, that chroot is nott allowed to anybody.
Greetings George
And THANKS AGAIN for your help and for trying to find a way.

Hi Guys, i'm another newb looking for some answers.
I'm also having problems with setting up the FTP server on my 5200PRO.
I have been following this forum to the letter but still it doesn't work. So far I have installed pureftp and ftp access and set them up as in the previous posts ftp server is enabled, i have forwarded the ports on my router 21 and a port range of 10 ports. The only difference is I have a static IP address so i'm not using a dynamic dns service.
I have set up a test folder and the ACS to go with it. I have tried to access the ftp server using ftp://myip in IE to no avail and tried using cute ftp putting in my username and password for the folder i set up but it also cannot connect!!
My router is a Netgear DG834PN so not too old and I forwarded ports before without a problem eg https ports for connecting to the web based interface of my 5200 without a problem.
Is there anything I am over looking??
Any help would be appreciated. ;D
All sorted, everytime I tried to connect I would receive nothing in the log of my router, turned out my ISP was blocking port scans to FTP ports.

Hi,
question:
do you have both modules pureftpP AND ftpacces activated? I don´t know if both modules work together?
Does FTP access work locally? That means, if you just type in the ip of the N5200 as adress in cuteftp and then username/password you are still in your loacal network and your route is not going out into internet and comes back again, like you would do, if you go over dyndns or your static internet ip.
In the beginning I had the problem, that I had changed the FTP port from 21 to 2121 to prevent "bad boys" finding my port 21, but my brand new fritzbox doesn´t support ftp on any other port than 21. So I could acces the N5200 when typing in the ip of it, but could acces it from "outside" via dyndns or from an other computer from my neighbour.
If you can acces the N5200 locally via its IP you will have the problem in the router, if you can´t even acces ftp on this way, there seems to be an error in the configuration itself.
Hope these hints might help.
Greetings George

Sorry to go off the subject a little but:
I have a problem with FTP Access. After a reboot of my N5200PRO all the enabled/disabled folder revert back to enabled.
Does anyone else have this problem? I have tried disabling and reenabling it but it's still the same.
Anyone know of a fix?

Hello to all.
The problem with pureftp AND ftpaccess BOTH activated on my N5200pro: you cannot logon via ftp anymore. If you disbale pureftp and still run ftpaccess, you can logon again. After reboot of the machine, the "forbidden" folders, which have been masked out under ftpaccess, are visible again. This seems to be a known problem in the actual version, as I have read in other threads.
If I have activated pureftp (and disabled ftpacess) my users can access their own folder and can see all other folders AND can move upwards to higher level from the ftp folder. I don´t know how to stop that, so at the moment I have disabled pureftp on my machine. I don´t know whether this problem has been caused by changing the passwd - file, or if this problem has existed before I have changed it for testing purposes. I am using the original passwd - file again, but still a logged an user has access to all upper folders if he klicks there. This only happens with pureftp activated. Maybe I have made something totally wrong.
Peter has, as I understood, an idea, what the reson may be.
Greetings George

Hello to all. The problem with pureftp AND ftpaccess BOTH activated on my N5200pro: you cannot logon via ftp anymore. Have just tried it - I've no problems to use both modules together (FTPAccess Version 2.00.00, PUREFTPD Version 2.00.06) - on a non Pro N5200 This behaviour is normal if You set "chroot nobody" No idea why it is working like that in Your setup, except the chroot parameter is wrong. I'm working at the moment on a new PUREFTPD version with the possibility to define for each user a home directory - the disadvantage is, that for public areas some manual changes are required (creating a links in the users home directory to the public areas). It's already working on my N5200, but it needs a basic User Interface for defining the home dir. br Peter

I need some help. I downloaded and installed the following modules on my N5200PRO, selected enable, and re-booted. Now I get the message "RAID SYSTEM IS BUSY" when I select either "manage modules" or "ftp". Also I have not been able to view my network directories.
Modules: FTPAccess PUREFTPD
What do I need to do? How can I set these modules to "disable"?
Thanks

Just wait a few minutes and all will work again.
FTPaccess changes are gone after a reboot. PUREFTPD module needs that the standard FTP service is disabled.
Disabling modules is done via Module Management.
