Hi folks - I'm considering buying a 1200, but I'm curious about the functionality of the iTunes server. A few questions:
Can I use the iTunes server to play music on a Roku Soundbridge?
How hard is it to move my existing iTunes library (15 GB) from a PC to the 1200?
If I buy a new CD, how hard is it to import into the iTunes library on the 1200?
Can I move music directly from the iTunes library on the 1200 to my iPod?
The iTunes server seems like such a great feature, but it's not very well documented anywhere.
Thanks, -bmc

first of all, the use of the i-tunes server for your soundbridge, that would depend on the type... I personally have the pinnacle version. this doesn't support the offical I-tunes server functionality, they recomend using firefly for that, but rest assured the built in mediaserver in the N1200 works like a charm with the soundbridge! transfering your music to N1200 is basically the same as transfering any other file, the quickest way is the usb interface, but your normal transfer over your lan will do just fine... as for the I pod questions I will get back to you on that, I haven't done much with my Ipod nano recently, I have been using my other mp3 player, with a bigger drive but I will be sure to post about this soon.... hope this awnsers (parts) of your questions...

I was going to buy an M1001 directly from Roku. Any reason to prefer the Pinnacle model? (I can't find it on Pinnacle's web site - has it been discontinued?) transfering your music to N1200 is basically the same as transfering any other file, the quickest way is the usb interface, but your normal transfer over your lan will do just fine... OK, sounds easy enough. Will it retain my ratings, play information, and all of that, or will I be starting over? hope this awnsers (parts) of your questions... That's really helpful, thanks. Maybe I'm asking the wrong questions, though. Here's the general problem I'm trying to solve: Right now, I have all my music on one computer. It's all ripped from CDs directly into iTunes, so it's all unprotected AACs. I've been pretty happy with iTunes - it's a perfectly good playback environment, and it integrates nicely with my wife's iPod. I'd like to expand this setup to add the following functionality, all from a common music library: - Playback on my computer and my wife's computer - Playback on my stereo (I like the Soundbridge interface, but I'm open to other solutions) - Transfer to my wife's iPod, and if I get an iPod at some point, transfer to that one too. I don't really care about: - Playing protected AACs (i.e. from iTunes music store) - Playing video or TV shows I'm willing to jump through some hoops for this. For example, if I buy a new CD, and I need to import it to a local iTunes library, then copy the files to the server share, that's probably OK. I'd really like to avoid ending up with three copies of my whole music library, though. And it would be nice to not have to re-rip a couple hundred CDs. Is this what the iTunes server feature is designed to do? How well does it work? Are there differences between the Thecus implementation and competing products (like, say, the Synology DS107e)? Again, thanks for your help, and I'd appreciate any more information that people have. -bmc
