After getting modules working and trying to figure out a weird mail notification error, I just noticed my folders are gone.
Is my data gone also or is this just an optical illusion?

Hi greybard,
What do you mean by "gone".... ?
Please, be more specific. What folders? Where did you see them before and where can't you see them now?
E.g. if you saw them using the CIFS protocol, then the SAMBA config file might be corrupted.
Check this: all shares are located as directories below /raid/data. First of all check if you can see them there.

I did the file modify and I finally had my modules working correctly... Then I discovered my mail notify was working (already wrote about that in another thread) Then I discovered that my folder area was blank. I tried to do a system check but it wouldn't reboot, it would just go to the reboot screen and sit at 59secs. So I attempted a factory reset but again it wouldn't reset. so I did a power cycle, now it comes up but I can't log into it, the wizard can access it but it still doesn't let me log into it at wizard completion. Just says the page is taking too long to load. It has been a busy day...

Ok, another power cycle and it finally reset it's network.
The browser still doesn't seem to be working but I made contact with my RAID with putty, I am logged in under the sys account.
So there's life, what now guys?

In answer to the earlier post: Yes my shares are there under /raid/data (at least one kindness). The the LCD does display that the web service is starting I can't seem to contact it to configure my NAS settings (IP, Password, see what modules are running, Mail Notification..etc) there is nothing there for the browser to connect with.
I am not sure what to check now but it does look like a screwed up config file somewhere because I am at least logged into the 5200 through putty and SSH (Thank you Omega!).
Any suggestions for the Linux novice?

Follow-up: Also I can not map a share folder from Win XP though the folders and files are able to be seen while logged on the 5200.

Follow-up: Also I can not map a share folder from Win XP though the folders and files are able to be seen while logged on the 5200. Just had the same thing happen here. Rebooted, wouldn't read AD (AGAIN), folders nowhere to be found though they were under /raid/data. My confidence in this product isn't high enough yet to actually place data on the drives! At any rate, hard shutdown via web interface. Boots, IP listed correctly on LCD but device is incaccessible via SSH, http/https, SMB. nada. Going to reset *again*. The only thing I can think of and thought perhaps to ask you is - did you change the root password? I don't even know if this would affect the device though I'm sure someone here will let us know. I do know this - logged in as user sys I issued passwd and changed it. The message 'password for root has been changed' informed me of my folly (followed by passwd sys). Of course I noticed later that there's an option in the module itself to change the sys pass. So, I don't know if this has anything to do with the funkiness being experienced. ***{EDIT:} I'm going to just stop posting until i've finished researching. Turns out, in my case, somehow the WAN/LAN exchange order has been lost a couple times. Found the device by connecting the other interface. Hm.

Nice to hear from you!
I didn't intentionally change my root password if I did.
I still have able to get in using Putty with a sys/sys account/password.
Are you also no able to get the web interface working because my shares and web front end aren't working.
The LCD is displaying and says everything is fine but none of the front buttons do anything.
Keep me in the loop if you make any headway because I am getting no where and Thecus is missing in action.
Omega, any ideas?

Hi greybard, OK, one step after the other..... 1) post the output of the command df2) Check or post the output of the command ps wIf you just want to check it, you should see a bunch of httpd processes running I still assume that all data and file systems are still there, so if the apache server (httpd) is not running or if you want to restart it, try this command: /opt/apache/bin/apachectl -k restart Andreas

Fine.... So the apache httpd is not running.... Try to start it manually using this command: /opt/apache/bin/apachectl startsslAndreas

BTW, running /opt/apache/bin/apachectl -k restart Results in the error: Bad Group Name Root

Same error, bad group name root

Ok,
the apache server cannot start because it tells us that the group root is not available. So we need to check the group file using this command:
less /etc/group (press q to quit that program after finish reading...)
And also check the files /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow too. They should contain at least an entry for root.....

There is no group in etc.
The other two files do have an entry for root, do you need me to post them?
